Today I might be emotional about the prompt, today's prompt talks about Democracy in our country, what exactly is wrong with the Democratic Rule in the country and What can be done to fix it,
Honestly this is a prompt I really relate with, because my country have been in deep hardship because of this style of rulership and the Rulers themselves.
Nigeria is my country, a country with vast and diverse ethnicity and Culture, a country commonly called the Giants of Africa but that is now just a title, Nigeria is now the country that is living the shadows of the past, Economic and Infrastructure development is zero,
Agriculture and Education is also not improving.
What is Democracy?
Democracy can be defined as a system of government in which the country's laws, policies, leadership, and major undertakings of a state or other polity are directly or indirectly decided by the “people,” a group historically constituted by only a minority of the population.
The Nigeria’s democracy has been so far very fluctuating and fragile ever since Nigeria Gained independence independence. A lot of governments reigned successively over a long period of time, they did their best to their capacity, wether good or bad or worse, some are totally worst,
many of them have struggled to create any sense of national unity, no stability in Maintaining peace, engaged in corruption from all levels of their government.
Nigeria is a country with more than 200 ethnic groups. Democratization and development have progressed at different speeds in the country’s disparate regions.
A lot of things have been very wrong in the elections of our leaders in Nigeria aS a country
So many Corrupt politicians and Gullible members of the country who will do anything to sabotage their future through vote buying, thug life, cults, ethnicity, religious beliefs and many other unfortunate reasons.
Just recently, the former president ( former president: Mohammadu Buhari) left office and then the new President Bola Ahmed Tinubu entered the office, and the situation of the country can be likened to jumping from frying pan to Fire. Things has been very Chaotic and for just less than a year in the Office it has been a catastrophic failure. Honestly In my opinion this particular Man was not even the people's choice. The Election process and the bodies handling Election in the country are too corrupted or should I put it as that they are now compromised.
Here are some ways the Government frustrates people from Making the right choice in voting the right people
Using poverty as a Weapon:
This is one big issue Nigeria is Facing Currently, there is high inflation of things, people are starving, people are frustrated, people are confused and they are now very gullible to do whatever to earn a living or get something out for survival in the harsh economy they find themselves.
The Government or lemme put it as the Politicians make use of this opportunity to Manipulate people to do their bidding, like votes buying, thug, even to do counter protest and comprising the influencers and youths in general.Lack of Education
Many of the people in some parts of the Country, don't actually believe in voting, most of them don't even go out to exercise their voting rights whenever it's time for elections.Zoning and Ethnicity
There is a very large controversial stance on shifting zones and ethic groups in turn for a political appointment.Godfatherism
This has been one big Corrupt practices, where a particular person control or influence, who and who is going to be in a political post, this particular example was part of why the current president of the country is in power, even after so much atrocities, He has the power to come out publicly to proclaim it's his Turn.
It's quite unfortunate, that even to get Job some time, you need to pay your way to a Godfather, who in turn give you the go ahead to have a job.
Honestly the list goes on and on.
What is the solution?
The Solution is to cancel these above practices that have so much plagued the Democratic Government in Nigeria. Until then we can enjoy the Country's Democracy, not Democrazy of frustration and pain.
