Some Are Above the Law; The Irony of Rules

in Hive Learnerslast month (edited)
Laws were made for men. Laws were made by men. That is to say that laws were made with special consideration to the nature of man especially with respect to the tendency to go the extra mile in evil.

Freedom according to the Oxford Advanced Learners dictionary refers to the right or privilege to do, say, or think what you want.

We have the freedom to do what we deem fit but then laws were made to ensure that where a person's freedom begins, another's ends there.

Like the popular adage says "your right to swing your arms ends where my right to protect my eyes begin".
That is to say that you are free to swing your arms as long as you don't threaten my vision.

While strict rules gives the appearance of the absence of freedom, it is infact the protection of everyone's freedom but that is in a situation whereby all the laws are obeyed.

We may not be entirely free but we are free enough to exist and carry out our needed day to day life without feeling inadequate. The law protects all.

The rules and threat of punishment helps to put the excesses of man in check otherwise evil and catastrophe will be the order of the day. Already we have heard stories of what the breakdown of law and order looks like in lawless situations like during wars, etc.

These rules that govern society are generally acceptable while punishments are placed for actions generally accepted as criminal or inhumane.
Otherwise, people would perpetrate the most heinous crimes and go unpunished.

Already we know that a lot of people go unpunished despite criminal track records and what the law says about these crimes.
Now, imagine when there is no law and everyone is entirely free.

The danger however is that a group of people are above these rules and threats of punishment. Most especially those who made the law or those whom the lawmakers favoured. This is the focus of a lot of evil that goes on in society.
These group of people are entirely free and go about commiting crimes in quantities that far exceed what others have been punished for and they go Scot free.

We see politicians starve the masses by stealing money that is for salary, pensions and they go Scot free while a hungry man is arrested for stealing food.

It would have been a better place if the rules governed everyone. That way, no one is above the law and everyone has same levels of freedom.

In summary we can do whatever we like but if the law stipulates a punishment for what you want, it simply means that what you want is terrible. This does not still stop people from going for what they want, it just means that they do it while being prepared to face the consequences of their actions.

I envisage a time when everyone can answer for their crimes regardless of their social standing but I believe this is not feasible.
It has never happened in human existence and would never happen.
Hence freedom is a relative condition, we do not all have same leels of freedom but we are free regardless.

We must not be ultimately free, but we have enough freedom we need.
If we have more than this freedom, then there will be a problem

Indeed, too much freedom would lead to abuse and infringement on the freedom of others.

Following the rules is mandatory for all of us and we are doing it but what I want to say here is that if we see something wrong with our own eyes and tell the truth about it then we are punished and rich people are given freedom.

Yes, that's the sad reality. The rich get away with wrong while speaking the truth can put others in trouble. Sad stuff.

Yeah you are right.
