When it comes to data privacy, there is little we can do as long as we aren't the only one holding onto those data. Just as you have mentioned, there are lots of good attached to the government having access to our privacy anytime - anyday but the risk involved can't be overlooked.

Selling data and mismanagement can cause huge problem which would only affect the owner of the data in the end. There are lots of corrupt personnel up there who only care about their gains.
