When I saw the subject for discussion this morning, I had to relax and brainstorm within myself before I started putting something on writing. I have never thought I would make a write up like this on politics if not now. I would like to share my perspective on politics though I am not a politician neither am I dreaming of becoming one. By disciplined, I studied inorganic chemistry which falls under the science and in practice i am a humanitarian and Evangelist. Throughout my life, I have never participated in politics but I only exercise my franchise as an electorate by casting my vote during elections.
Before I go further would like to define what politics means. To me politics entails the activities or schedule which revolves around the governance of an area or community. How people are govern. Hmmm a scientist trying to define politics. It could be democratic where people have the say over everything. People vote in and out any candidate of their choice and the power much is with the people though it has been wrecked in my country presently. At the other hand I have what I called the military regime where one person has the vector power to decide and approve everything. Nigeria was once under the military before the civilian took over in 1999 to unravel democracy.
I don't know why I have no any passion for politics right from my tender age to where I am today. I had so many opportunities during my studies at both secondary and tertiary education level. Kudos to everyone that has vision towards this dimension of life.
Some see politics as a dirty game but I don't believe it that way. Politics is good is just that the people involved allowed selfishness and other factors pollute the entire system and makes it look as if is dirty. Let me share my recent experience that made me lock up my heart in building politics as a career at any level. During the last election in 2023, my wife and I went to our polling station to exercise our civil right. We arrived late however we saw people peeping from a far of where as many haven't cast their votes. After a while, we were asked to come closer and do the needful. Immediately we were about reaching the scene, some unknown individuals came and destroyed the ballot boxes, and caused a great pandemonium which left us returned to our various destinations. Hmmm I was like, is this how politics supposed to be? How can you just manipulate people and force yourself to power? I detest such kind of politics.
One disgusting thing about Nigerian politics is that it's deadly if you aren't careful especially during elections. I have had experience too during my NYSC where I conducted house of representatives bye-elections. I narrowly escaped death in that village. The security personnel we went weren't fortified therefore they were sore afraid of the communards. At the long run, we had to do what the uncontrollable crowd want in order to save our lives. Hmmmm politics in Nigeria? Is very difficult.
Some ills of politics are; lack of good leadership. This begins right from the mindset of individual. Many don't possess the qualities of a god leader hence once they get to position, they squandered or misappropriate the public funds. A good leader thinks about posterity and not just being self centred. In Fact the genesis of corruption and lack of transparency is tied to the problem of leadership. There are illnesses that infiltrate the political system today.
In conclusion, my perspective on politics is that I can not build career in Nigerian politics instead I will try my best in raising good children that will influence the political sphere with good policies. Politics is good but bad politicians have destroyed the initial image which needs sanity now. Imagine an SUG president embezzle the funds collected from innocent students. What would become of him if he becomes a house of Assembly member tomorrow? I look forward to read other post for more clarification.
