History is pivotal in the life of every human being. I often say that any man without history is like a tree without roots. Have you ever seen a good tree that doesn't have a root? How would it survive? How would it live? How would it exit? History is like a lifeline of every human being. You can't just do without history. In this post, in would share some significance of history to school and the society at large and my input in repositioning history as an integral tool for economic and educational development.

The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history according to GEORGE ORWELL.

Going by the assertion of the aforementioned personality, i would say that history is life and when you want to destroy or kill people is to deny them accessibility to their history. When you don't know where you are coming from, you might not know where you are going to. This would become a great challenge and affet one's productivity. Politically, many have been rubbed of their franchise simply because of the inability to trace their history. They got stabbed in the process of pursuing any position of their choice. Can you imagine giving birth to a child that can't trace the history of his parents?

Before i proceed, there was a man migrated from Nigeria to USA. God blessed him and suddenly got married. The wife conceived and bore him lovely children. After two decades, the children never visited where their father hailed from. This deprived them of other benefits they would experienced over here. All they claim right now is USA. Hmmm i believe there's no human being that emanates from the sky. There's a Chanel and background we came from. It's expedient that parents charge their ward with the right word and history of their background so that they can appreciate more possibilities that lies in the world.

Removing history as a subject in school for me is not good at all. I got to where i am today because there were documents i read through that pointed me to where i am. I remembered when i was growing up, i met my uncle and asked him questions to tell more about how they came about our present village and what necessitate their movements. He was able to share the family tree with him. I was able to trace my family background to third and fourth generation even though if you ask me now i may not accurately deliver oooooo so don't even ask me anything. When it was in school, my history teacher taught me things about all the major places in Nigeria. I never knew things about Yoruba people before but through his teaching, i got lots of light and today is can say a lot.

significance of history

  • It fosters cultural and national identity. How can we preserve our cultural tides for posterity? This is achievable only through history. Nigeria my country has lots of languages and cultures. With the advent of history, students are able to explore other areas and languages.
  • History makes students and the community to learn from the past. The past normally enables one to deal with the current issues and to adequately make provision and preparation for the future.
  • History helps to raise critical thinkers. It boosts the thinking faculty of people.

CONCLUSION

History should be restored and revived in our schools. A lot of students can't trace their background because there is no history.
History helps us to know the past, adjust for the present and plan for the future.
Thanks

Well said, I love your post. History isn't something we can just neglect, we need history so that we can trace our lineage, and like what you said students were unable to trace their background due to there's no history which you are right, history is important and not should be neglected.

Thanks for the input. I really appreciate

Indeed, history is still relevant and will continue to be.
