This is my entry for week 111 edition 1 of the hive learners prompt. This edition is quite impressive owing to the fact it depicts the current challenge we face in our society today. Data or information are essential part of an individual's life. Data are fundamental in forming an information concerning an individual. Data ought be handled with absolute care and confidentiality. In this post, I would share my perspective on why data should be private and why it should be left public to an extend. Both have its own merit and demerit as well.
The government has been on the business of sourcing people's data via birth registration, affidavit of any kind gradually it has metamorphosed now to what is known as National Identification Number and BVN all these are measures to ascertain the number of citizens. At times they also conduct census to count the numbers of people. My big concern is that are all these data saved? Hmmmm previously it was saved but presently with the recent advancements in technology, cyber crime has infiltrated the data management system. Sometimes I received a message that I won this or that hmmm how did they get my information to send me such funny message? Data are leaked easily now and corruption everywhere.
Every standard organisation has a methodology used in securing and preserving every data. The data management system of every organisation matters a lot and also is like the life wire. If it's not properly managed, it could have a negative impact on such organisations. I had the privilege to work on the data management control system of a professional training institutes where varied young people intrude for their professional certification in their desired sphere of life pursuit. All their data ends on my table. I ensured that even if they are friends, no one sees or no information leaks to other to avoid any crises. I served for several years in such unit and God helped me to deliver successfully.
I think the government should ensure good data control of information about her citizens. That would go along way to boost the security of life and property of her citizens. The rate at fraudulent activities is on going is quite alarming such that deliberate efforts must be done to avoid public outsourcing of people's data. There should be decorum and confidentiality. When your data is secured definitely your life too is indirectly secured.
I was surfing the internet some times back I noticed how some people's social handle was tempered with. It was hacked and manipulated. There should be a data control system policy for many that would like to buy data to send them invites and solicit for help should be discouraged totally. It's not every detail of an individual that should be known publicly instead, a kind of restrictions should be placed on further request until permission granted. This will curb the issue of cyber crime.
Every individual's reputation is very important therefore proper measures should be put in place to avoid any leakage. I advocate that there should be confidentiality to people's data.
