Building trust is important. Sometimes I would randomly come back and see my mom in my room, maybe lying on bed and it doesn't feel weird. I don't feel like she's invading my privacy or snooping around. I love how she asks me things regarding my life and I feel relaxed talking to her. I feel that if parents can get it right in those tender years then their kids will grow up to be responsible adults.
