As a trader good potray of character and the way and manner you speak to people matters alot, infact this either brings your business down or it elevates your business, some traders might think its one voodoo from their family compound thats worrying them not knowing that its their bad character and altitude thats driving both their customers and intending customers away.
Last year I had so many encounters with different traders, and I too also traded, and I believe if I had shown some nasty characters towards my customers then by now I wouldn’t probably have any sales to show, I came in contact with different traders in the market during the festive season, and I must say I give kudos to the male group of traders, those guys from the east are really doing a great job, they will always make you feel comfortable and you wouldn’t leave their shop without buying one or two piece from them, I had the intention to buy one jean trouser, but I ended up buying two, because they kept on showing me things that I’d like, and me too I kept on testing them, we made jokes together and laughed out loud, mind you it was my first time buying something from them, I never them from adam, and they were even gifting their customers drinks too, I totally enjoyed my time there with them, and I must say Iook forward to doing business with them again.
While my sisters and I were done with that shop, passing by the market we came across one womans shop thats sells really nice uk thrift wears, like I fell inlove with the branded tops and skirts, my sisters and I picked some things, me personally I picked two skirts and one top, then the woman said that she normally likes to settle prices first before we could test, at that point I should have knew that woman really had some bad characters hidden, but I saw it as nothing, it was her rule and her shop so we agreed.
This woman legit told us that each of the skirt thrift skirts cost 15,000 naira, honestly I was shooked to my bone marrow, lol…
She said the top I was hold was 8,000 naira, I became confused at some point because for crying out loud this is the market as far as I can remember not some online shop, so moving on I negotiated for 6000 naira for the top, she immediately said NEVER! And that it was the last price she gave us, she also said that we should look round her shop and that all her clothes were boutique standard and if we couldn’t pay the price, we should carry our money to go and buy food to eat, at that point I just stepped outside the womans after dropping all clothes I selected without saying a word, I got so angry.
From both scenarios what I could just figure out was that the way and manner a trader approaches his or her customers matters alot, that lady did not only spoke to us in a rude way, she even insulted us ontop, as if we told her that we didn’t have food to eat at home.
