There’s violence in the world today not 100% because of the tv shows we watch (wrestling, boxing) or the video games we play, violence comes as a result of disagreement and oppression, back in the years before our generations even existed or before tv’s and digital communication was even invented, there have been so much oppression and disagreements which led to violence, people were being forced into slavery without their will, children and young girls were being taken to other countries for sexual slavery without their will and when they disagree they were being killed.
The violence in the world didn’t start now, it started in the days of the Bible, we all read how Cain killed his brother Abel, how the children of Israel was being bullied by the Egyptians back then, to me everything feels like a prophecy that has to be fulfilled someday somehow, brothers betraying brothers, countries fight against contries, leaders fighting against the masses, as we can all see there’s violence everywhere and it didn’t just start today, it has being on for many years, I remember while in the university some years back, we the students had to run for our dear lives because the community in which our school is located was fighting with a nearby community because of a big piece of land, farmers that went to farms that period got killed, they were always shooting and we lived in the fear to the point that most of the students whose homes were not far had to follow a longer route to their various destinations.
Violence isn’t a good thing unless you’re fighting for your right as individual or collectively, and even at that be rest assured that some people would definitely get hurt along the way, some weeks back my sisters client who came to make her hair told us how she ran away from her village in the North to warri, Delta state. According to her she said that the fulani headsmen has taken over her community, that these men would just enter into communities and begin to kill male farmers and take along with them the females, she also said that a girl was asked to go with them but she refused telling them that wouldn’t be able to leave her youngers ones behind, so she was instantly killed.
This particular girl told us that this men killed her mother while on the run, she managed to escape to a nearby state so that after some time, she would be back to conduct a proper prayer and burial for her mum, while they were at it they got an information that the killers were in the community again, and that was how she ran faraway from home and ended in warri.
The killings are really increasing everyday and for sure its not even going to stop because people are really out of control, powers and aminations have been put in the hands of the wrong people who do not care about life.
To me I can only think of a ways to combat this growing problems because it is surely affecting everyone in one way or the other, which is by;
• Reforming law enforcement and justice systems: strengthening relationships between police and the communities, rehabilitation should be prioritized over punishment for non-violent offenders, implementation of regulation of firearms to limit access deadly weapons.
• Addressing Economic Inequality: poverty and unemployment increases violence and crimes, job opportunities and vocational training should be created, stable living conditions should be provided by government for less priviledges.
• Improved mental health support: So many violent people behave in so time of way because they might have mental issues without people knowing, this untreated mental conditions also leads to violence.
Lastly I wouldn’t say watching whats going on around world causes people to behave violently 100% but most times such shows can actually trigger some people’s violent behavior, so I would say such shows and videos games should be limited.
