Hello lovely people welcome to my blog.
Laws are made to keep the country in order, safe, and sound for the people to move around freely without fear in their hearts. However, some laws are too harsh on the people, especially on the poor masses. There is a saying that nobody is above the law but sometimes it seems like some people are above the law.
Although no crime is justifiable, every crime deserves to have its punishment, but I think some crimes are supposed to have light punishment; why some deserve a heavy punishment?
The punishment for a murderer is sentenced to death or life imprisonment, which is good cause nobody is supposed to take a life he or she didn't create in the first place. Even if you created it, it is still life, except in a place of self-defense.
Self-defense is a crime that is not a crime itself because if you have a licensed gun and an armed robber attacks you, you only have to shoot the robber in the leg, not kill him, which the law sees as a crime; if you kill him. But notwithstanding, why would somebody go to jail for killing a person who tends to kill him or her? I don't think the death sentence should be given to anybody.
I know laws don't work with our emotions. They work based on evidence that they are seeing, but even at that, I don't think self-defense should be a crime even if you killed the person. If the crime is well investigated and it's been proven that this person killed this person out of self-defense.
I once read on a social media blogger about a man who was sentenced to death by hanging for stealing chicken; how!!. I know that stealing is a crime, yes, but it's unfair to sentence someone to death by hanging because he stole a fowl. It's not that when he went to steal the fowl, he killed anybody or hurt anybody. He just stole and was caught and beaten, and then the best punishment was death! To me, that's way too much.
What of the woman whose husband is fond of brutalizing her, like beating her Black and Blue? Sometimes she ends up in the hospital for one or two weeks. Even when she is pregnant, and each time she reports to the police, they will dismiss it as a family problem.
Then, one of these days, the husband was beating her, and she was almost dying when she stretched her hand and carried the nearest object that reached her hand at that time and hit her husband on the head, and he
died on the spot. She was arrested and taken to court, and the neighbors went to court to bear witness.
She was still sentenced to death; if her case wasn't revisited by another judge, she could have died because she defended herself; she was finally sentenced to 6 years in prison.
I think self-defense shouldn't be justifiable if, after investigation, it's proven that this person committed a crime out of self-defense.
Thank 💕 you for stopping by my blog.
