Let the government do the right thing

Doctors going on strike is no longer a new thing in this country. In fact, every government sector in my country is always going on strike because the government has refused to do anything to help the society or even hear the cry of the doctors and nurses.

The health sector in my country is lacking everything from the buildings not being maintained to the health sectors not always having enough doctors and nurses on duty.Always beds are full; sometimes only the smells coming from the hospital wards are enough to give one another diseases apart from the one the patients came in with.

I don't blame the doctors and nurses who are leaving the country to look for greener pastures outside. I remember one time in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where doctors kept complaining that the elevator was bad and needed urgent attention, but all the right authorities just acted like the complaint didn't concern them.

So the doctors, both patient, have been managing it that way until one day, a very young doctor entered the elevator with some visitors and patients, only for the elevator to reach a stage and jam. At first, they left it and were trying to open the generator before it was just brought to their attention that a doctor and some people are inside the elevator.

That's when they started trying to open the elevator before they finally succeeded; the doctor and some people had already suffocated to death. The internet broke out during that period. Doctors were angry and decided to strike, as their pleas and cries were heard until tragedy struck. Well, I didn't follow up to find out if they repaired the elevators, but I know that many doctors traveled out and resigned after the incident.

I remember one incident that happened to me. I will never forget it. Doctors were on strike during that period. Around 12 o'clock at night, I had a serious difficulty in breathing and I tried everything possible. That's how my mom and my neighbors tried to rush me to the hospital. Just as we came out, we heard gunshots and bullets flying around.

So we had to wait until around 3 am for everything to be calm. We moved to the first hospital, but upon arrival, the entire government hospital had no electricity, and their Lister (generator) was not working. Inside the hospital, there was a terrible smell that I can't explain, and there was no available bed space. People were lying on the ground. They just gave me an injection and asked me to go to another hospital.

We moved to the next hospital, on our way we found out that they had gone on strike. At this point, my mother said I was breathing slowly and they took me to the third hospital, but no doctor was on site, and it was already 6 o'clock. Finally, we went to the last hospital, which happened to be a private hospital. That's where I was rushed into the ICU because I was unconscious.

Doctors going on strike, many lives will die. Imagine when they are not on strike, how many souls will die. The only thing is that no matter how many times the doctors and nurses strike, the government has not really done anything tangible about their request at all.

Doctors don't go on strike in this country oh, it's just the resident doctors that I have seen went on strike

If the doctors, I mean all the doctors from the consultants down to the house officers should go on strike at once, I promise you we will be counting in millions of deaths every blessed day

The government knows how important this sector of job is, yet, they don't want to pay attention to it... It's too sad

The strike at upth na all go strike, if you see how government did some thing fast. Everywhere was locked, we couldnt go in

It was not everyone 😂
Consultants didn't join the strike but consultants can't run the hospital so it's as good as not coming 😂

Omo all na strike because the didn't show equally

Exactly! It's just to show you what it looks like
