Oh, how I recall those years, when I was a child and my parents would sit to watch the network news for certain hours. It used to be so annoying. I wondered how much delight it brought them to listen to the endless negative reviews and information. The entertainment news was the only part of it that I enjoyed. Even listening to the radio bored me. Until I grew a little older and did not think of the news as very annoying as it was then.
But, do people still sit in front of a TV to view the news? Last two week ago, when I ran an errand and went around the location where the state local television station was sited, I was surprised it still existed. Had to ask questions to be sure it was still functional. And it is.
If any one had asked me, I would have said that the TV station had been kicked out of business with/due to technological advancements. Dumb of me to think that everyone
It's just, the last time I actually sat to watch news was sometime in 2021. You can't blame, I get to read up on current and country-wide happenings from my device. I truly do not watch, I read. Oh, yes, I recall seeing the mews last year and following it up during the presidential elections. My bad. That, and Gaza war. I didn't sit through that, though.
Have you cone to realize that the older you grow, the more you're likely to pay attention to current affairs? I did not use to give a hoot about the news, but now, I seem to pay some little interest. I think of it differently now. Growth, maybe.
To answer the question, it's been so long since I saw the news. I'm not even at the spot where I can. I mostly rely on my gadget and maybe social media to keep me updated. Even then, I don't take the information dished out hook, line and sinker.
Thing is, there's a lot of news houses, just as there are eye witnesses, and these days, there's stiff competition between each newsroom wanting to be the lead one and gaining more traction. So, sometimes, information shared is done so with a pinch of salt, even maybe to push forward an agenda/propaganda, some important news is withheld. And we only learn what they want us to.
During last year's election, as an example, after the counting of the entire votes to the hearing of the people, what was broadcast on TV was totally different. Left me in awe.
I see, like in cases where an influential/popular person is the owner of the newsroom, whenever some news about the person cones to light, the one that's broadcast from the person's owned room is usually half-baked. Never given in to faults. They can be very biased.
And that's why you see blogs popping up everyday on the net like rash and coming up with stories and misleading articles. Negative news and gossip thrives very well and brings traffic around here.
I don't believe all I hear. At least, I know, i have met and interacted with people who worked for publications(newspaper publishing houses and radio station precisely) and they would usually tell you that it's not totally true what is shared and sometimes, the people with more catchy story and better offer get the promotion.
So, for better view and wider opinions, I consult different sources. I read from more than one news page, I use my search engine, I read the paper(if/when it's available). This works. Might get contrasting bits of information sometimes, but, I get a more detailed view and can easily tell what is from what isn't.
Thanks for gracing this post.
