I FEEL YOUR PAIN. This was the reason why we decorated the floor at our kitchen with soft foamed linoleum instead of ceramic tiles - which, of course, are much more practical than linoleum. But... I just hate so much this shock of dishes falling on the tiles and breaking into pieces...

Perhaps a high shelf would help against children?... at least a little. πŸ™
