Calling to all book lovers!
Do you love reading books? Do you love getting lost in the pages of a good book? Are you always on the lookout for new novels or books to read? Do you enjoy exploring different genres of books, from personal development to sci-fi to romance and more?
Look no further as I have found out about a beautiful app I just discovered a few days ago and ever since then, I haven't skipped a day without opening the app. Okay, wait! Don't be too eager to scroll down! Let me share a story with you.
For the past years, I have never been a lover of reading books and one who would immerse herself in reading as I don't remember doing that even if I wanted to. Sometimes, I just feel since I am surfing the internet and getting what I want, why read books? Many times, I would pick a book to read, only to open a few pages and then boom, that's the end of the book. I don't remember to read like how those who are truly in love with books do.
I was in my hometown two years ago and downloaded a book titled "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Samuel Clason. This was the first book I read to the end and was craving for more. That book opened my eyes to the importance of savings and that was there I learnt that 10% of what I earn is mine to keep. Do you know after I left my hometown, my interest in reading books died down? Maybe because I was too occupied with lots of activities and as a student then, I couldn't create time for that.
So, towards the end of last year, I changed totally and decided to start improving my life by reading books. I went out someday deliberately to a bookstore and bought three books; Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, Relationship, Marriage and Family Life by George Adegboye and Atomic Habits by James Clear.
Oh my God! My spirit was lifted after reading those books to the end and was hungry for more. I wanted more books to start reading, so I went out again to purchase "The Confident Woman" by Joyce Meyer (hard copy) and downloaded as PDF "The 5 am Club" by Robin Sharma. "There is no harm in reading even for 20 mins per day", I said to myself and that was how I began my journey of reading books for 20-30 minutes daily especially every morning by 5 am before any other thing so that I wouldn't forget when the day finally is dawn and would end up forgetting.
Fast forward to this year, the spirit started going down, though I would pick up those books and re-read them again plus struggling to finish the ones I downloaded on my phone. I started searching for apps where I could get free books to read since 80% of my time is spent on phone.
There were two apps I downloaded but I couldn't have access to the most beautiful books I saw and would be required to upgrade to a premium version which I didn't want to. I was looking for a free one where I would be able to get any book I wanted and read.
After many months of searching and almost gave up on reading even though my mind was still craving to read books. I visited YouTube some days ago and saw an ad about this beautiful app. I instantly went to download it and viola, I got what I have been looking for all this while. I was so excited and I became gingered to start reading every morning before stepping out or perhaps starting my activities in full. I dedicated 5 am to reading and would read for 30 minutes before my morning devotion.
Here is the app: Self-Mastery : Self-Help Books. I love this app as it has different genres of books to be downloaded for free as PDFs or can be read while in the app.
I am currently reading "The Scout Mindset" by Julie Galef and the book has 15 chapters which I am already in chapter 5.
The Scout Mindset is a good book to read if you want to learn how the mind works, the types of thinking, the soldier mindset which is the opposite of the Scout mindset, motivated reasoning and so on.
A brief explanation of the scout mindset: it refers to the way of thinking and approaching life with curiosity, openness and a willingness to learn and explore. The soldier mindset is the opposite of that. If you want to know the signs to detect if you have the scout mindset, then you should read this book.
Genres of the books include;
- Self-help books
- Success books
- Investment books
- Psychology books
- Business books
- Biography books
- Productivity books
- Habit-forming books
- Personal development books
- Learn to Earn books
- Science books
- Thoughtful Books
- Leadership books
- Communication books
- Time Management books
- Sales and Marketing books
- Motivational books
- Love/Relationship books
The beautiful thing is that all these books are free to download. Here is the bookmark session where I have saved all the books I would want to read.
Also, if you don't want to read while using the app, you can download the PDF version which will be sent to your phone instantly. After bookmarking a book, click the icon menu and select "Download" and that is it.
Ever since coming across the app, I have been consistent in reading a book and it has been great. The best time for me as I said above is at 5 am when everywhere is silent and reading books will flow through my mind with no distraction. Sometimes, I would wish to continue after the 30 minutes have elapsed but I have no choice as other activities would be affected by it.
You should check the digital app for yourself too.
