Still Alive!

Since I wasn't able to watch the NCAA Division II Softball Super Regional games on TV, I am catching up with the scores along with you this morning. Before we get to that though, I am going to talk a little bit about my nieces game.

It was a pretty short contest as far as they go, not because the game was short either, but about halfway through all the seniors on the team had to leave so they could go to senior awards night. The parents that handle the streaming of the games also have a daughter who is a senior on the team, so they sent out a message the stream was going to be cut off. Then they packed up their stuff and left along with my niece and her family.

When she left, the team was up something like 7 to 2 over their opponent. The final score of the game ended up being something like 8 to 6. My wife and I shut it off when the stream cut out because we obviously really only care about our niece :)

I think that may have been her last game of the regular season, and now they are moving on to the playoffs. Don't quote me on that though.

Back to the Division II tournament. My old school SVSU was able to snag a 3 to 1 victory over UIndy. They play them again today and if they win, they will have eliminated UIndy from the tournament. Remember, the Super Regionals are a best of three format, so if you lose that first game you have your back against the wall.

Wilmington beat Pace 1 to 0, UNG beat Francis Marion 5 to 4 in ten innings, and Shippensburg beat Ktuztown 7 to 2. I've gotta be honest, I have never heard of some of these universities before. They almost sound made up!

Western Washington lost to Cal St. San Marcos 9 to 1, West Texas A&M beat UT Tyler 11 to 8, AUM downed Tampa 5 to 0, and Central Oklahoma beat Augustana 1 to 0.

If I had to put my money on any one team to take it all, I would probably go with Cal St. San Marcos. We will see though. Those SoCal teams are really good. Just look at the success UCLA and Stanford has had over the years in the softball landscape. You should never count out a team from Oklahoma or Texas either. They are just built a little different to be honest.

I'm looking forward to seeing how things shake out after the games today. Meanwhile, the Division I tournament starts today as well. I'll bring you all the details of that on Monday when I am back from the weekend!
