It was a good weekend for the Lady Lasers Scarlet as they had their last "home" tournament before heading on the road to Florida for their final tournament of the... well... ever. That's right, while the Lady Lasers Scarlet team will continue on in some form after this season, as more than 80% of the team is heading off to their future at the university level, the head coach has decided to retire as well.
Action starts for the ladies bright and early tomorrow morning. We need to talk about this past weekend before we get to all of that though.
Things got started for them on Friday with a come from behind win 7 to 6 over a Gators Premier team. It was a really exciting game and it kind of felt like the other team was going to come back and win at the last minute, but the clock was not on their side.
They followed that game up with a nice short run rule 7 to 1 win over a Louisville Stunners team.
Saturday as my wife and I were dodging the raindrops at our campsite we tuned in for the first of two more games. They went back to back with a 1 to 1 tie against an Indiana Shockwaves team and then a huge 13 to 4 run rule victory over another Shockwaves team.
I have to point out that second game was quite special because my niece finally hit a home run. She has been in a bit of a slump the past couple of weeks and it was nice to see her get some pop back in her bat before they head off to Florida.
They would have normally had bracket play on Sunday, but they opted out of that so they could all get on the road to make their way to Panama City.
Competition is going to be rough down in Florida, but I think the ladies have a chance to really do well. They have showed some improvement over the last few games and with some new team members coming on they have really started to show some cohesion.
I think with this being their last week/weekend playing together ever, they might have a little more pep in their step. The stars might just align for them to have an amazing tournament.
Fingers crossed anyway. You know for a fact I will be keeping you abreast of all the happenings as I find out about them down in Florida. Unfortunately unlike last year, I will be enjoying the games from home. I'm honestly still recovering after that long trip to Colorado and my body just isn't built for the Florida heat!
