The Motivation Mindset

What do you do when everything seems to be falling apart, and you feel like you're losing control? How do you cope when it feels like the universe is conspiring against you, and nothing is going your way. At this point, many of us must have realized that life isn't a bed of roses; it never was, isn't and never will be. The earlier you take note of this, the better. Sometimes, life will turn its beautiful and merciful side on you, pouring unexpected blessings and shining its smile on you like a brief ray of sunshine. But out of the blue, just when you least expect it, things take a turn for the worse, pushing us to the edge- the turning point on the other side of the mountain. Sometimes, life pushes us to the very tight spot. While some give up, others find ways to stay motivated.

For day 27, the inleo prompt provides us with a very interesting topic: when you feel like giving up, how do you stay motivated? Each of us have strategies that we use to overcome life’s challenges. For some it might just be to sleep it out or talk to a friend, while others might need a more significant approach to tackle life’s struggles and keep themselves motivated. What works for someone might not work for you. It is only when you embark on a journey of self realization that you discover what keeps you motivated when you are on the verge of giving up.

When I feel like giving up, how do I stay motivated? One of the things that helps me is remembering past successes no matter how small. One thing about humans is that they are so fixed on achieving great things that they sideline their small wins. I have made it a habit to celebrate my wins— pat myself on the shoulder and shower myself with intentional and positive words. No matter how small the reward for my hard work is, I always make sure I celebrate them. These are the things I look back to when I'm on the verge of giving up. Recently, one of my lecturers asked us to read a book before the next class. I'd been busy with other things that I totally forgot about reading the book until a day before the deadline.

At first, the first thoughts that clouded my mind were, “It is impossible to read such a bulky book in a day.” Truthfully, it would be difficult for an average book reader to complete that book within a day. Instead of giving up, I remembered the many times I had completed such tasks. I recalled the time I had a similar experience and finished it just in time before the deadline. That's exactly what I did. Instead of wallowing in my sorrows and waiting for a miracle to happen, I started reading that book, and to my surprise, I completed it and still had more time before the deadline.

Another key motivator for me is self-belief. I'm my own biggest supporter, and I trust that as long as I put my heart to anything, I can overcome any challenge. This confidence gives me courage to push through tough times. You are in the best position to motivate yourself. If you don’t, who will? If you look down on yourself, who then will pull you up in difficult times? Friends and loved ones will be there to motivate us, but we first have to motivate ourselves to make things easier. Believe in yourself. Believe you can pull anything off with dedication and hardwork.

These are some of the things that motivate me when I feel like giving up.

Thanks for reading.
