One thing I love about Lagos State, where I reside, is that development happens very fast. Some communities you think are underdeveloped today, give it three years ahead, go back there, and you will be amazed at what you will see.

When my husband bought the empty land on which we built our house, I remembered telling him that I wouldn't live here; it's too underdeveloped, with bushes here and there. I was even scared of snakes...lol, but then, none of my rants pushed my husband. He responded that I can go and rent my own house wherever I want. That was a strong response, and I knew he meant it. All my suggestions, he trashed them all and started living comfortably in his own house. I didn't have an option but to relax my mind by force ... lol.
Today, I will look around and see a small underdeveloped community of a few years ago turning into a mini-city. The Lagos State government is doing great with community development, and so far, our gutters are done with the construction, and now is the interlocking of the street's road. Everything is already taking shape, and we, the residents, are super excited about this development.
Last year, during the rainy season and flood attack that happened in Lagos, we were affected so badly, but this year, we have been hearing about floods in Lagos from a little bit afar and not from us this time. Our road has been taken care of with proper waste disposal and gutters. This is something we never believed would happen so fast, but here we are.

However, there is something I observed about the contractors and the drivers handling this road. Maybe because they knew we were happy about the development, and that's why they are doing anyhow, expecting zero reactions from the residents. These people are using any opportunity to extort people of their hard-earned money. Imagine blocking the roads completely all the time over road construction even when the road is enough to accommodate materials on one side and give people access on another.
The other day, my kids couldn't go to school because they blocked the roads. We drive out and meet their usual attitude. Today again, they started, and what shocked me is that they only give access for whoever tips them; otherwise , pack your car and use your legs.
You know, people use a little opportunity you give them as it pleases them, but if it's President Tinubu, they will rubbish him. But give such people the same presidential role, and they will be worse.
Humans will always be humans.
