I was somewhat aware of all of it. The library tended to have some kind of activity in the kids section for the animals. Usually a coloring page for each of the 12 and a chart to look up the one for their age. A lot just colored their favorite animal anyway. I also found a bit about the elements and superstitions about them, including this story, but I hadn't realized we were so close to the next cycle.
