Hey, little people👋. As an emotional music lover, I'll tell you about this band that I accidentally discovered a couple of years ago😅. I was really obsessed with another pop band and two of their members showed up with a shirt that had a number printed on it. And in my innocence and ignorance, I really thought it was a clothing brand, but that didn't make me curious. The curiosity aroused is because that number was the same year of my dad's birth, so I decided to look for it. I was surprised to find out that it was a band🎼.
Who are The 1975?
The 1975 is a British band that was formed in the 2000's by a group of friends in high school. The lead singer is 🎤 Matty Healy, who has hair just as messy as mine. Accompanied by guitarist 🎸(Adam Hann), 🥁drummer (George Daniel) and bassist 🎸(Ross MacDonald). They became friends when they were high school students and decided to band together to play songs. They had many, many names (they actually changed their band name a lot) before they got to the one they have today. And once they felt more comfortable with the band name, they started working and released their first songs.
Their Sound
When I heard them for the first time they caught my attention for their sound with a very direct rock instrumentation, which made me want to listen to the rest of their songs thinking I would find similar sounds or styles. But, it was not like that, and that is where the characteristic of the band is, because they do not have a unique style, they fuse genres without pigeonholing themselves. 👨🎤
They have everything in the same album, where there are a lot of Pop and Rock influences from the 80s and 90s, especially from the vocalist, where you can find influences like Michael Jackson, Prince and U2. As well as elements of alternative R&B, soul and electronic 🎶. It's a mix that you wouldn't expect and in my opinion it really works perfectly. They write and record what they want, without following the commercial recipe. If you are an artist, listening to their work might remind you that doing what represents you and not what you “should” do is valid and important.🌟
In their songs they touch on complex and contemporary issues such as love, identity, anxiety, politics and society, sometimes with a touch of irony. And having such a varied style, you don't know if when you hear their songs for the first time, you're going to end up dancing, crying or thinking about the climate crisis at 2:00 AM.

Yo andaba realmente obsesionada con otro grupo que se dedicaba al pop y dos de sus integrantes aparecieron con una camisa que tenía un número impreso. Y en mi inocencia e ignorancia, realmente creí que se trataba de una marca de ropa, pero no por eso me dió curiosidad. La curiosidad despierta es porque ese número era el mismo año de nacimiento de mi papá, por lo que decidí buscar. Me lleve con la sorpresa de que se trataba de una banda🎼.
¿Quiénes son The 1975?
The 1975 es una banda británica que se formó para la época de los 2000 por un grupo de amigos en la secundaria. El vocalista se llama 🎤Matty Healy, quien tiene un cabello igual de desordenado que el mío. Acompañado del guitarrista 🎸(Adam Hann), el baterista 🥁(George Daniel) y el bajista 🎸(Ross MacDonald). Se hicieron amigos cuando eran estudiantes de secundaria y decidieron agruparse para tocar canciones. Tuvieron muchísimos nombres (Realmente cambiaron mucho el nombre de su banda) antes de llegar al que tienen actualmente. Y una vez que se sintieron más cómodos con el nombre de la banda, comenzaron a trabajar y sacaron sus primeras canciones.
Su sonido
Al escucharlos por primera vez lograron llamar mi atención por su sonido con una instrumentación rock muy directa, lo que me hizo querer escuchar el resto de sus canciones pensando en encontrarme con sonidos o estilos similares. Pero, no fue así, y es ahí donde está lo característico de la banda, pues no tienen un estilo único, estos fusionan géneros sin encasillarse. 👨🎤
Tienen de todo en un mismo álbum, donde existen mucha influencia de Pop y Rock de los 80s y 90s, especialmente por parte del vocalista, donde se pueden encontrar influencias como las de Michael Jackson, Prince y U2. Así como también elementos de R&B alternativo, soul y electrónica🎶. Es una mezcla que no te esperas y que a mi parecer realmente funciona a la perfección. Escriben y graban lo que quieren, sin seguir la receta comercial. Si eres artista, escuchar su trabajo te podría recordar que hacer lo que te representa y no lo que “deberías” hacer es válido e importante.🌟
En sus canciones tocan temas complejos y contemporáneos como el amor, la identidad, la ansiedad, la política y la sociedad, a veces con un toque de ironía. Y al tener un estilo tan variado, no se sabe si al escuchar sus canciones por primera vez, vas a terminar bailando, llorando o pensando en la crisis climática a las 2:00 AM.
