Very cool! Preventing resonance is very important in all sorts of designs. What a great concept to review, great job and done concisely! Interesting fact about Huygens, I did not know that!

Hi thebighigg, thanks for stopping by.
The study of vibrations has become increasingly important over the last 80 years. Perhaps one of the most studied cases in the history of engineering is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which collapsed in 1940. In that incident, the bridge entered into resonance with the wind, generating increasingly larger vibrations until the bridge itself collapsed. Since then, a profound revision of the theories on vibrations in civil structures has taken place.

That video of the bridge rocking out of control before failing due to resonance was both fascinating and terrifying all in one wasn't it? Much was learned from that stupid design mistake!
