Update on the Megaptera-marina Project: How is It Doing?
Less than two weeks ago, I started a small personal project aimed at making it easier and faster to find all the posts published with the #untobisunto tag.
This is the tag that must be included in articles participating in the “Unto & Bisunto” contest, held every week in the Olio di Balena community, offering a prize pool of 100 HIVE to be split among the winners.
The initiative has seen a fair amount of success and has now reached its 28th edition, with over 2700 HIVE already distributed to users who have managed to win a prize so far.
That’s why, with the aim of helping all participants both to get feedback for their contest entries and to encourage them to read, comment on, and support other authors’ posts, I created the account @megaptera-marina and a script that allows this account to comment on and reblog every day all posts submitted to the contest.
This way, by simply following @megaptera-marina or visiting this page, you can instantly find all the posts, without having to manually search for them or follow every single author involved.
A more detailed explanation of how the project works can be found in the announcement post, although it's only in Italian – I had limited time and unfortunately had to skip translating it into English.
How’s it going?
So far, 9 users – 8 if you don’t count myself – have decided to follow the @megaptera-marina account, and I think that’s a great result, considering there are usually fewer participants in the contest. That means many of those who joined the last two editions gave this “service” a try.
What else can I say but “thank you”? :)
I was also prepared for the project to fall into oblivion, so seeing that it’s actually getting some attention makes me genuinely happy!
And as you can see in the screenshot above, I’m the first to use this service: thanks to @megaptera-marina, I can finally see and support – at least with an upvote – all the posts from the participants.
As I mentioned in the announcement post, @megaptera-marina also leaves a small, 0-value upvote – useful for those wanting to set up a curation trail – and an informative comment about the reblog.
On that note, please be aware that any rewards generated from those comments go to @megaptera-marina – and therefore indirectly to me – as I don’t know of a way to decline comment payouts.
For this reason, I kindly ask everyone to NOT upvote the comments left by @megaptera-marina: I know it’s a way of saying thanks – and I truly appreciate it! – but it could result in those comments being flagged as spam and hidden on most frontends.
So please save your voting power for the other participants instead – you might even discover their posts by following @megaptera-marina :)

Aggiornamento sul progetto Megaptera-marina: Come sta andando?
Meno di due settimane fa ho avviato un piccolo progetto personale con l'obiettivo di rendere più facile e veloce trovare tutti i post pubblicati con il tag #untobisunto.
Questo è il tag che devono contenere gli articoli che partecipano al contest "Unto & Bisunto", che si tiene ogni settimana nella community Olio di Balena e che mette in premio ben 100 HIVE da dividersi tra i vincitori.
Si tratta di un'iniziativa che ha riscosso un discreto successo e che ormai è arrivata alla 28° edizione, con quindi oltre 2700 HIVE distribuiti agli utenti che, sino ad oggi, sono riusciti ad aggiudicarsi un premio.
Per questo, nell'ottica di provare a dare una mano a tutti i partecipanti sia a ricevere un feedback per la loro partecipazione al contest, sia per incentivarli a leggere, commentare e supportare i post anche gli altri autori, ho creato l'account @megaptera-marina ed uno script che consente a questo account di commentare e ribloggare ogni giorno tutti i post dei partecipanti.
In questo modo è sufficiente seguire @megaptera-marina o andare a questa pagina per trovare subito tutti i post, così da non doverli cercare manualmente o dover seguire tutti gli autori che vi prendono parte.
Il funzionamento più in dettaglio del progetto lo trovate descritto nel post di annuncio, che però è solo in italiano - avevo poco tempo a disposizione e purtroppo ho dovuto rinunciare a tradurlo in inglese.
Come sta andando?
Ad oggi 9 utenti - 8, se escludiamo me stesso - hanno deciso di seguire l'account @megaptera-marina e credo sia un grandissimo risultato, dato che i partecipanti al contest sono mediamente meno, per cui vuol dire che molti dei partecipanti alle ultime due edizioni hanno deciso di provare questo "servizio".
Che dire se non "grazie"? :)
Ero preparato anche alla possibilità di vedere il progetto cadere nell'oblio, per cui scoprire che invece sta ricevendo delle attenzioni mi rende davvero felice!
E come potete vedere dallo screen sopra io sono il primo ad utilizzare questo servizio: grazie a @megaptera-marina riesco finalmente a vedere e supportare - almeno con un upvote - i post di tutti i partecipanti.
Come avevo scritto nel post di annuncio @megaptera-marina lascia anche un piccolo upvote privo di valore - ma utile per chi volesse attivare una curation trail - ed un commento informativo dell'avvenuto reblog.
A tale riguardo, segnalo che eventuali ricompense generate da questi commenti andrebbero a @megaptera-marina - e quindi indirettamente a me - dato che non conosco un modo per declinare il pagamento di un commento.
Per questa ragione chiedo a tutti di NON upvotare i commenti lasciati da @megaptera-marina: so che è un modo per dirmi grazie - e lo apprezzo tantissimo! - ma così c'è il rischio che i commenti di @megaptera-marina vengano downvotati per spam, venendo così poi oscurati sulla maggior parte dei frontend.
Conservate quindi pure il vostro potere di upvote per gli altri partecipanti, magari trovando i loro post grazie ad un follow a @megaptera-marina :)
