Night is an excuse
to find lights in the city.
A pier in the bay
doesn't recognize the colors' intent;
it reflects the fear
of those who endure silence,
because they know that a scream hurts more
when the light doesn't exist.

I took these photographs I'm sharing with you some time ago, one night on the Muelle Real in Cienfuegos Bay, in the central part of my country, #Cuba.
It was a very calm night, and the sea resembled a mirror where the city lights conversed with the water in their perceptual extension.
I write these words now, with a contradictory feeling of pain and joy at the same time.
Pain because this city houses the remains of someone who was a second father to me and who has decided to transmute into another dimension unattainable for now.
Joy, because this is how Jesús de la Caridad Candelario Alvarado, I'm sure, wants us to always remember him, joyfully, enjoying to the fullest the time we have left on earth and sharing love with the smile of his verses, which are the verses of someone who will never die.
Yes, because he was a poet of those who are rare. And that's why I accompany these photos with a poem as a pretext for a shout and always, always, a smile.

La noche es un pretexto
para encontrar luces en la ciudad.
Un muelle en la bahía
no reconoce la intención de los colores,
refleja el temor
de quienes soportan el silencio,
porque saben que un grito duele más
cuando la luz no existe.

Estas fotografías que les comparto las hice ya hace algún tiempo en una noche sobre el Muelle Real de la Bahía de Cienfuegos, zona central de mi país, Cuba.
Era una noche de mucha calma y el mar simulaba un espejo donde dialogaban las luces de la ciudad en su prolongación perceptiva con el agua.
Escribo estas letras ahora, con una contradictoria sensación de dolor y alegría a la vez.
Dolor porque justamente esta ciudad alberga los restos de quien fuera un segundo padre para mí y que ha decidido transmutar a otra dimensión inalcanzable por ahora.
Alegría, porque así, Jesús de la Caridad Candelario Alvarado, estoy seguro que quiere que le recordemos siempre, alegres, disfrutando al máximo el tiempo que nos queda sobre la tierra y compartiendo amor con la sonrisa de sus versos, que son los versos de alguien que no morirá jamás.
Sí, porque él era un poeta de esos que no abundan. Y he ahí el por qué acompaño a estas fotos, con un poema como pretexto de un grito y siempre, siempre, una sonrisa.
