Beware of Tunecore
If there's one thing that really gets on my nerves, it's lying. But also dishonesty.
Before choosing a distributor, I carefully looked at those that claimed to be tolerant of artificial intelligence-assisted work.
And as you can see in the attachment, TuneCore was one of them.
I started by sending them one track, which they accepted without comment, then gradually they accepted around 20 songs and two albums. Then someone named Anton asked me what AI tool I was using.
Being honest, I told them which tool I was using, emphasizing that it's not 100% AI and that I write my own lyrics.
I also emphasized that I had the necessary licenses and rights, and that I was registered with Sabam.
Since that day, they have blocked all my songs and informed me that I can no longer import anything to their platform. However, other platforms have no issues with my songs; they are available online and visible to listeners. They are even being used on social media for new creations by users...
Actions
I contacted SABAM to report this, and I contacted other distributors for advice before committing more funds, because so far, TuneCore does not seem inclined to reimburse me, even though they do not intend to honor their professional contract commitments (the most expensive one they have). You should also know that they have an SLA of 1 business day to respond to emails, and so far, they have always been late on that as well.
So for now, I am looking for an honest distributor who keeps their promises and gives a chance to an artist who is trying to convey a message through lyrics that they put into songs with the help of AI.
AI is not the enemy, it's just a tool, just like the synthesizer was, or even mixing desks. The customer must remain the one who decides whether they want to buy an artist's music.
And if the distributor refuses to do so, they must also refuse the money used to pay for the service that will ultimately not be provided.
Questions
I asked them questions, always very politely and calmly, about what would happen to the tracks already online, whether they intended to honor my rights over time, and I also asked them what they intended to do with the money from my subscription.
So far, in three days, remember the sla of maximum 24 working hours, I have not received any answers to my questions.
I hope to be able to continue this activity, because it does me good. But to do so, I will need to find a distributor who stands by their convictions... Who doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and also a few regular fans who listen for free. And why not a few customers, who knows.
I'll keep you posted. Now you know why I haven't published anything in the last few days...

S'il y a bien une chose qui m'insupporte, c'est le mensonge. Mais également la malhonnêteté.
Avant de choisir un distributeur, j'avais soigneusement regardé ceux qui s'annonçaient tolérants aux travaux assistés par intelligence artificielle.
Et comme vous voyez en attachement, TuneCore en faisait partie.
J'ai commencé par leur envoyer un titre, qu'ils ont accepté sans aucune remarque, puis au fur et à mesure ils ont acceptée +- 20 chansons et 2 albums. Puis un certain Anton m'a demandé quel outil d'IA j'utilisais.
Étant honnête je leur ai répondu avec l'outil que j'utilisais, en insistant bien sur le fait que ce n'est pas 100% IA et que j'apporte mes lyrics moi-même.
En insistant également sur le fait que j'avais les licences, les droits nécessaires, et que j'étais inscrit à la Sabam.
Depuis ce jour, ils bloquent toutes mes chansons et m'ont fait savoir que je ne pouvais plus rien importer chez eux. Pourtant, les plateformes ne trouvent aucun soucis à mes morceaux, ils sont bien en ligne et vus pas les auditeurs. Sur les réseaux sociaux ils sont utilisés, même, pour de nouvelles créations par les utilisateurs...

J'ai pris contact avec la SABAM pour signaler cela, et j'ai pris contact avec d'autres distributeurs afin d'avoir des conseils avant d'engager plus de fonds, car jusqu'ici, TuneCore ne semble pas enclin à me rembourser, alors qu'ils ne compte pas tenir leurs engagements du contrat pro (le plus cher qu'ils ont). Sachez également qu'ils ont un SLA de 1 jour ouvré pour répondre aux mails envoyés, jusqu'ici , ils ont toujours été en retard là dessus aussi.
Pour le moment je cherche donc à trouver un distributeur honnête, qui tient ses promesses et qui laisse une chance à un artiste qui cherche à faire passer un message via des textes qu'il met en chanson avec l'aide de l'IA.
L'ia n'est pas l'ennemi, c'est juste un outil, tout comme le synthé le fut, ou même les tables de mixages, le client doit rester celui qui décide s'il veut acheter la musique d'un artiste.
Et si le distributeur refuse de le faire, il doit également refuser l'argent qui a servi a payer le service qui au final ne sera pas rendu.
Des questions
Je leur ai posé des questions, toujours très poliment et dans le calme, sur ce qu'il adviendra des titres déjà mis en ligne, s'ils comptent bien honorer mes droits sur le temps, je leur ai aussi demandé ce qu'ils comptaient faire de l'argent de mon abonnement.
Jusqu'ici, en trois jours, sur un SLA de max 24h ouvré, je n'ai reçu aucune réponse sur les questions posées.
J'espère pouvoir continuer cette activité, car cela me fait du bien. Mais pour cela, il faudra trouve run distributeur droit dans ses bottes... Qui ne coûte pas un bras, et aussi quelques fans récurrents sur les écoutes gratuites. Et pourquoi pas quelques clients, qui sait.

J'aimerais qu'un plan puisse se dérouler sans accrocs... Pour une fois ...
