Hey! Hope you’re doing great! Today I’m sharing a #monomad entry that takes me back to those moments in Sri Lanka where people, their faces, and their everyday life made me stop, observe, and fall in love with their culture, their smiles, and their kindness.
We continue today with the second part of my series about the people of Sri Lanka. I hope you enjoyed the first part, which you can find in my previous post (Souls of Sri Lanka I), and that you connect with this new selection of moments. What I share here are glimpses of daily life: people helping each other at the stupas, people praying with a serenity that feels almost sacred, people simply enjoying the water while swimming under the sun.
These scenes may seem ordinary, but to me they hold an enormous emotional weight. Each gesture, each expression, each interaction is a reminder of how rich life is when you observe it with calm and attention. Sri Lanka is not only temples, lakes, or landscapes. It is its people, and these photos are my small attempt to honor them.
Continuamos hoy con la segunda parte de esta serie dedicada a la gente de Sri Lanka. Espero que os haya gustado la primera parte, que podéis encontrar en mi publicación anterior (Souls of Sri Lanka I), y que conectéis con esta nueva selección de momentos. Lo que comparto aquí son fragmentos de la vida cotidiana: personas ayudándose las unas a las otras en las estupas, personas rezando con una serenidad casi sagrada, personas disfrutando del agua mientras se bañan bajo el sol.
Pueden parecer escenas sencillas, pero para mí tienen un peso emocional enorme. Cada gesto, cada expresión, cada interacción es un recordatorio de lo rica que es la vida cuando la observas con calma y atención. Sri Lanka no son solo templos, lagos o paisajes. Son sus personas, y estas fotos son mi pequeño intento de rendirles homenaje.
Some photos in this series carry even more depth when you look closely. The man praying on his knees against the stupa, completely absorbed in his devotion, is one of those scenes that stays with you. Beside him, a woman stands in silence, her posture soft but firm, and even the stray dog lying near them becomes part of the atmosphere, as if it also sensed the calmness of the place.
There is also the group of men lifting and adjusting the long fabric around the stupa. Their coordination, their patience, and the way they move together give the moment a sense of ritual, even if it is simply part of the everyday work they do for the temple.
And then you have the mothers and children walking along the water, the boys swimming and laughing together, and the elderly couple washing clothes in the river. These are not posed photographs. These are slices of real life, captured exactly as they happened, and that is what makes them so special.
Algunas fotos de esta serie tienen aún más profundidad cuando las observas con detenimiento. El hombre rezando de rodillas contra la estupa, completamente entregado a su devoción, es una de esas escenas que se te quedan grabadas. A su lado, una mujer permanece en silencio, con una postura serena pero firme, y hasta el perro callejero tumbado cerca parece formar parte del ambiente, como si también sintiera la calma del lugar.
También está el grupo de hombres levantando y ajustando la larga tela alrededor de la estupa. Su coordinación, su paciencia y la forma en que se mueven juntos dan al momento un aire casi ritual, aunque sea simplemente parte del trabajo cotidiano que realizan para el templo.
Y luego están las madres y los niños caminando junto al agua, los chicos bañándose y riendo entre ellos, o la pareja de ancianos lavando la ropa en el río. No son fotografías preparadas ni posadas. Son fragmentos de vida real, capturados tal cual ocurrieron, y eso es precisamente lo que las hace tan especiales.
I hope this second part of the series allows you to feel even a small fraction of what I felt while taking these photos. Sri Lanka welcomed me with kindness, warmth, and authenticity, and its people became the true soul of my journey. If this post inspires you, moves you, or simply makes you pause for a moment, then these images have done their job.
Espero que esta segunda parte de la serie os haga sentir aunque sea una pequeña parte de lo que sentí mientras hacía estas fotos. Sri Lanka me recibió con amabilidad, calidez y autenticidad, y su gente se convirtió en el verdadero alma de mi viaje.
