Hey! Hope you’re doing great — let’s start with today's entry for the #monomad challenge

Today I am going to show you a series of photos I took on the trip I made alone to Ghent, where I visited a friend, and then continued through Italy. Today I want to show you these six photos that mean a lot to me. As you can see, they are not the typical photos one might take when travelling. Those, make no mistake, I take them too, you know it, sometimes I show them to you. But it is these ones that capture a detail, an emotion. These are the ones that, when I look at them again, still make me feel that emotion, just like the first day.

These two photos feel incredibly evocative to me. They show two statues that stand very close to one another, yet somehow still far apart. So far apart that they cannot embrace each other and instead end up embracing themselves, looking down, with a sense of sadness or shame. It makes me think about today’s society, about how we are surrounded by so many people and connected in so many ways, especially now with social media, yet we no longer have that real connection we used to have with the people around us. Saying hello to a neighbour, helping an elderly person nearby, giving a friend a hug, finding an intimate connection with someone. In the end, we often end up alone, working on our self-love, which is not a bad thing, but looking down because we do not really see it or recognise it. For me, it is a silent problem of today’s society.

I loved coming here and visiting this street, magically filled with graffiti. It felt like suddenly stepping into Alice’s rabbit hole and spending a few seconds in a completely different world, full of chaotic colours and graffiti. This street is located in the historic centre of the city, the pearl of Ghent. What I find most interesting is that if I came back, it would probably look completely different from how I found it that day, because there is always someone painting over what is already there. Here, urban artists let their creativity and imagination run free with total freedom. It is a place where graffiti artists can display their work without anyone being bothered by it.

This photo, taken along the river walk in Ghent, shows a group of boys laughing and playing while the seagulls fly around them. I love it because it freezes a moment full of movement and energy. I do not remember exactly what was happening at that time, but I like to think they were simply enjoying the place. Animals are sacred to me, so I hope that was the case. Still, I hope you like the photo.

First of all these clicks are exceptional and unique 👏. I'm impressed!

Secondly, those two figures could also be seen as two people standing in a shared silence, not disconnected but, deeply parallel. Sometimes the most honest moments between two souls are not loud, dramatic or even physical. They are quiet, heavy and human. Perhaps they are not failing to hug; perhaps they are both re-learning how to hold themselves first. Maybe they are mirrors and not strangers. Two people who have survived something: grief, loss, war, heartbreak, and are now standing side by side, not touching, yet not alone.

Not everything unfinished is sad; noot every silence is empty.
Sometimes healing begins just by standing near someone who understands. These statues might be telling us: we do not always need to be intertwined to be together.
We only need to stay—without turning away.

In the end, this is just how I see the figure, and I guess, enough of my yapping 🤭. You have all the rights to disagree with me!

Peace 🕊

I really like your point of view. A very happy optimistic one!! :) thanks a lot for sharing...
