Puddles as Reflections in Street Photography (I) Monomad Challenge [ENG/ESP]

In Buenos Aires we have several days of storms, lots of rain that have even flooded areas in different neighborhoods. Many people consider that these days are not suitable for taking pictures, some prefer sunny days and the truth is that every weather has its advantages, you can do different things depending on what you have at hand. Personally I like more this kind of panoramas, atmospheres when it comes to street photography.

Today I bring you a series of photos taking advantage of the puddles left by the rain and using them as reflections for street photography.

En Buenos Aires tenemos varios días de tormentas, mucha lluvia que incluso han inundado zonas en diferentes barrios. Muchas personas consideran que estos días no son adecuados para salir a tomar fotos, algunos prefieren los días soleados y la verdad es que cada clima tiene sus ventajas, puedes hacer diferentes cosas dependiendo de lo que tengas a la mano. En lo personal me gusta más este tipo de panoramas, de atmósferas cuando se trata de fotografía de calle.

Hoy les traigo una serie de fotos aprovechando los charcos que deja lluvia y usandolos como reflejos para la fotografía de calle.

When I started in this photography thing I used to do this a lot, I was looking for ways to make my photos different from everything I saw in the networks (Instagram). As time went by and I got to know this city I know where to go and I know where there are these kind of well formations in combination with something attractive in the city itself.

I went to the Plaza de la República, where the iconic Obelisco of Buenos Aires is located.

Cuando empecé en esto de la fotografía solía hacer mucho esto, buscaba las formas de hacer que mis fotos fuesen diferentes a todo lo que veía en las redes (Instagram). Con el pasar del tiempo y conociendo esta ciudad se a donde ir y se donde hay este tipo de formaciones de pozos en combinación con algo atractivo de la misma ciudad.

Fuí hasta la plaza de la República, es donde se encuentra el icónico Obelisco de Buenos Aires.

I knew I could get something good there by taking advantage of the architecture and the giant buildings in the area.

When I do this kind of photos the first thing I do is to observe what I have around me and the distance I am standing at, it doesn't do me much good to zoom in when it comes to these reflections because the main idea is to capture as much scenery as possible and the bigger the water well the better the reflection.

Sabía que podía conseguir algo bueno allí aprovechando la arquitectura y los gigantes edificios de la zona.

Cuando hago este tipo de fotos lo primero que hago es observar lo que tengo a mi alrededor y la distancia en la que estoy parado, no me sirve de mucho hacer acercamientos cuando se trata de estos reflejos porque la idea principal es captar el mayor escenario posible y mientras más grande sea el pozo de agua mejor será el reflejo.

Another weather aspect that was in favor was the cloudy sky, especially for the black and white, I particularly like the absence of colors for this kind of shots, so it was a plus for me.

Otro de los aspectos climáticos que estuvo a favor fue el cielo nublado, en especial para el blanco y negro, particularmente me gusta más la ausencia de colores para este tipo de tomas, así que fué un plus para mí.

A personal anecdote regarding this is that many people look at me in a very strange way when I'm taking this kind of pictures..... "What the fuck is this guy doing taking pictures of a puddle?" 😂 while on rare occasions people have approached me to tell me that they know what I'm doing and that I have a good photographic eye. I don't know, what I am sure of is that inventing in photography is one of my passions, we will see the results 😅

After being a while in the Plaza de la República, I walked towards the Avenida Corrientes to try to take pictures from other angles and looking for a way to get a better symmetry with the buildings in that area.

Una anécdota personal con respecto a esto es que muchas personas me miran de forma muy rara cuando estoy haciendo este tipo de fotos... "Qué carajos hace este tipo tomando fotos a un charco?" 😂 mientras que en escasas ocasiones se han acercado persona a decirme que saben lo que estoy haciendo y que se nota que tengo buen ojo fotográfico. No lo sé, de lo que si estoy seguro es que inventar en la fotografía es una de mis pasiones, ya veremos los resultados 😅

Luego de estar un rato en la plaza de la República, caminé hacia la avenida corrientes para intentar hacer fotos desde otros ángulos y buscando la forma de conseguir una mejor simetría con los edificios de esa zona.

I find this very interesting, trying to look for reflections between one building and another and in the middle you can see part of the street and the sky. Also like the photo above where I was located on the side of the avenue looking for a way to frame those buildings from the sidewalk.

Esto me parece muy interesante, intentar buscar reflejos entre un edificio y otro y que en el medio pueda apreciarse parte de la calle y el cielo. También como la foto de arriba en dónde estaba ubicado de lado lateral a la avenida buscando la forma de encuadrar esos edificios desde la acerca.

I have prepared three parts for this type of photography using puddles as support material to generate reflections, generally focused on the city, its streets and buildings. I am pleased to share with you the first of these being my entry for the monomad challenge today.
