This month's grocery day was the most challenging ever! As much as I wanted to postpone it, I have no choice because there were bills to pay and I'm already running out of food to cook.
It's flu season due to the changing weather, many people are having cough and colds. Unfortunately, my immune system is weak and got infected with cough simply by a slight kiss on a baby's cheek. It's been almost three weeks since then but I'm still suffering with cough, although it has already subsided. I'm wishing it will go away before my birthday comes.
I went out late in the afternoon after contemplating so many times whether to go out and do groceries. I first settled the bills then went to the pharmacy. There were more people in the pharmacy which got me worried. I did my best not to cough while speaking to the pharmacist but wasn't able to hold it any longer while I was at the waiting area. The embarrassment when you suddenly cough with the sound of the phlegm! Lol. I immediately wore back my mask. Well, to be fair, a lot of people inside the mall were also coughing so I just kept my mask on the entire time.
The amount of crowd that afternoon was also surprising. The carts at the cart area gets wiped out fast. I immediately went for the goods that I think would easily get sold out and I was right. The chicken breast fillet was already sold out and I have no choice but to get the regular one.
I really have to make the grocery shopping quick because it was already getting late. However, the crowd at the cashier area was still the same when I got there. It's a bit quiet on this area and coughing without making loud noise was again a struggle. I can't remember how long it took me at the cashier area but it was already dark when I was done.
But before I went out of the mall, I saw a dirty ice cream (sorbetes) vendor and bought a cup worth Php 50. You know there's a belief here in the Philippines that ice cream cures cough. Lol. Just kidding. Of course, it was meant to be a joke. The vendor asked if I was alone. He probably saw me struggling pushing the cart.
When I got home, I immediately cooked a chicken soup meal. We call it Tinola. I chose to cook the dish because it has ginger on its ingredients and ginger is known to help sooth the throat and even help cure cough. It was really great to eat soup meals when you're sick. I felt better after eating it.
I also paired the meal with pineapple juice because it contains bromelain which helps breakdown mucus. I also bought lozanges in orange and honey lemon flavor.
All of these had helped somehow to lessen my cough but what I think really helps me recuperate faster is enough rest. And that's what I'll do until this cough goes away.
Anyway, I really wish I don't experience this again because going out is very difficult when you're suffering from cough. Wear your masks and keep distance from people infected by colds and cough.
Stay healthy!!
