Attending your kid’s School Program is more than just being there and showing up – It is a powerful way to support their growth and develop more confidence and sense of belonging. No matter how small or trivial the activities are it is special for them, remember that those moments will be constant reminders of how much you love them and how active are we in being there at special moments. It leaves a great impact in their life. I know that we get so busy at work and all the things we needed to do at home, but taking the time to be there shows that their efforts matter.
Today is my eldest daughter’s Family Day, she is particularly excited because she was going to perform not only their dance demonstration but also because she will be joining the “Sports Attire Ramp Modelling Activity”
I attended the Class Meeting a week before this program to discuss all the activities we will be doing there. When the teacher asked the class who wanted to take part in that area I was a little surprised that my daughter said she wanted to model. My daughter is usually very shy at events like these, what is more she is the new kid. She only just transferred to this school this school year. She was asked multiple times to sing during Christmas events at her old school which she did but she was so shy you could barely hear her. But I was there to support her and if she was willing to participate in this then who am I to hinder her efforts.
It was nice to see that there are so many Parents nowadays who are hands on to their children’s school programs. No more stereotyping, I saw both parents attending their kid’s activity not only the Mothers or Grandparent. Men are stepping up against this stereotype. It must feel so special for them. I remember when I was a kid, my parents would try their best to attend such activities. One of them will be around but because of work most of the time there was no one cheering us up. But that is okay, I bear no ill feelings because I know how much they wanted to be there and they show their support in various other ways.
The gymnasium in their school was not quite spacious enough, in the past these activities are done outside of school grounds like to a public gymnasium that offers more space. Maybe because there was not much time to prepare for this event and the usual place already got booked that it was not used. My husband and my other kid was also present during the event. My husband also woke up early to prepare sandwiches for the kid’s snacks. It was a potluck so everyone shares foods.
This picture was taken before the presentation of candidates, look at how adorably cute she looks. She was really smiling a lot because of her make up. She loves asking me to put her make up but I sternly tell her that lipsticks and make ups are only for adults. She could only wear them on special occasions or event. I am not very good at doing make up but I did my best. Standing beside her is her partner and classmate. They are good friends too.
Another contestant to this program was also her classmate and good friend. I remember the first day of classes she was the first person she talked to. She is a nice and sweet little girl. They hit it off from then on and became closest of friends.
After the presentation of the candidates came the Demonstration. It was a Zumba exercise there was a lot of pupils here. These are Grade 1 to Grade 3 pupils who are performing. It almost took up all the space in the gym at their number.
After the exhibition came the most awaited part which is the Sports Attire Ramp Modelling. All participants look so adorable at their costume; my girl’s sporty attire was badminton look. This is where the ramp modelling began, all the other parent of the candidates gathered behind the judges to get better pictures. It was no hindrance at all to the other people watching because there were bleachers they could watch from. I was so proud of her this moment. She took such a great leap to muster up all the courage in her to be able to display such an outstanding performance.
She did not win awards though but for me that was fine. She never aimed to win anyway. She did not even see it as a competition. For her it was only a stage where she can show her abilities and also used that opportunity to make some new friends.
After the contest came the Lunch, each Grade had prepared potluck for their own class. Parents get to use this time to bond and get to know the other parents. I did not have the opportunity to take the pictures because it was too crowded and I was dealing with my two kids in an open space. I was lucky I even got to take some pictures at all.
After having our meal, we rested for a little while before proceeding to the other part of the program which is Family Games. There were sack races, relay games, caterpillar games and such. The kids really enjoyed watching their parents play. For them this is the chance to see their parents in another light. Someone focused on playing instead of work or chores.
Unfortunately, during these times, my daughter was already too tired and was complaining of headaches and sleepiness. I knew she was this way because she now felt tired from all the activities they did in the morning. So, we left early so that she can rest at the house.
My husband and I were so proud of her, we promised her that when she wakes up we are going to treat her to some ice cream and fries. I love that God has granted us chances like these so that we can make more memories with our children. I thank God that we both get to witness her growth and discovering all the things she can do.
That is my story for today, I hope you enjoyed reading. God bless everyone!
