Hello Everyone!
Last Sunday is the Pasalamat Festival in my province, Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur. Our festival is held every 3rd sunday of January in an honor of patron saint, Sto. Niño, which coincides with the Sinulog Festival in Cebu City. some people now refer Pasalamat Festival as Sinulog Festival as well.
FLUVIAL PARADE
one of the high lights of the Pasalamat Festival is the Fluvial Parade. this is a catholic tradition and it is held a day before the festival. I have once joined this procession before. we went to the pier as early as 5am because it is expected that a lot of people would joined as well. the event will start with the mass then the fluvial parade. The fluvial parade was led by a fishing boat (Mother Boat) with the Sto. Niño on it. other fishing boat would then follow from behind. the sight was really amazing. you can see many fishing boat may it be Big or small forming a triangular shape. it is believed that by doing this, they will be blessed by Sto. Niño.
This is our photo with the boat that used in the fluvial. unfortunately i was not able to took a photo when we were sailing.
STREET DANCE
Another high light of the festival is the Street Dance Competition. it is one of the most awaited event in the festival. event thought the heat was so intense, the streets are still filled with locals and tourist. here are some of my pictures from the street dance.
Although the festival in our province is a bit smaller, and the quality may be slightly lower than Cebu's, our government, and of course, the locals, are doing their best to enhance the quality of our festival. I myself have witnessed the improvement of the costumes in the street dance. We never know, maybe one day we will be able to catch up with Cebu.
