Hello hivers! How are you? I hope you are all good in each different locations around the world. It's a rainy day today and I have something to to cook at home. Are you familiar of a banana blossom? Or locally we called it "puso ng saging" In English it's a banana heart. Well yesterday my father harvested so many banana blossom from his farm I think it's almost 30 pieces of it and some of it is given to my grandparents, uncles and aunties. Today I'm craving for a salad so my mother cooked banana blossom salad for lunch.
I had a very wide smile looking at this fruit because as far as I remember the last time I had eaten this fruit is almost a year ago. I lived faraway from my parents and in the island where I live it's uncommon for them to eat banana blossom so they don't sell it in the market but rather just throw it away or made a compose out of it to be a fertilizer.
First thing to do is to remove the old skins. Old skin is purple while the young skin is white. I enjoyed removing its parts because it has a flower so tiny in it and I have to collect it because it can be added to the mixture later.
After removing everything, I cleaned the table and prepare the spices. I sliced the onions, garlic and ginger.
And after the banana blossom was cleaned it was then boiled for an hour. Then my mother prepares coconut. Removing its skin, crack it to open and mill it manually.
And here's the final product. The boiled banana blossom was just mix with the coconut milk and the spices and it's done. It's very sweet, sour and salty. I love it so much and I finished two plates. This recipe is very simple but it takes hours to finish because it needs to be boiled properly. Well that's all for today. And I have another recipe for the next days of banana blossom. How about you do you have any recipe to share? Please tell me at the comment section what's your favorite recipe for a banana blossom.
