Happy Thursday Hivers!
I still remember when she was just three months old. My elder sister traveled to Cavite, in the Luzon area where her mother was working, to bring her home. Because her mom was busy with work, she entrusted the baby’s care to our mother. Since my mother couldn’t travel by plane alone, my elder sister volunteered to fetch her.
Since she was the youngest in the family, all our attention was on her. She was always the one we loved to tease until she cried—but the moment she did, we would quickly make it up to her by giving her food. It even reached the point where our mother would get annoyed with us because she was the one who always had to calm her down.
She grew up used to being cared for by anyone since there were many of us siblings around. As long as you gave her plenty of food, she would easily get along with you.
Whenever I see her wearing her nursing uniform and now officially capped, I can’t help but think how quickly time flies. It also makes me feel a little older myself. I know for her, joining the capping may seem like just a small achievement, but for us watching her, it’s already a big milestone.
Last Saturday was their capping ceremony. Unfortunately, the whole family couldn’t attend because the number of guests allowed was limited. Only her mother and one of our sisters, who had just arrived from Australia where she works, were able to be there.
Since the rest of us couldn’t witness the ceremony, we waited them at the restaurant where there's a small celebration afterwards. We reserved a spot at a Korean restaurant near our place. Some wanted to celebrate somewhere in Cebu City, but most preferred a nearby location because of the heavy rain and the risk of flooding—so majority wins.
One of our brothers picked them up, but they arrived later than expected due to the strong downpour. Thankfully, they made it safely and didn’t get caught in the worst of the flood.
When they finally arrived, we were so excited to take pictures with our baby girl that we had a little photo session first. After that, we went straight to eating—because by then, we were all really hungry.
Seeing her so happy also warmed my heart. I know she truly loves the course she has chosen. Since we were seated next to each other during dinner, I asked her, ‘Aren’t you afraid of blood?’ She smiled and answered, ‘No, Tita.’ I was relieved, because most of us siblings are actually squeamish when it comes to blood.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
