In today’s world, the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment cannot be overstated. From reducing pollution to promoting sustainability, each individual’s role in environmental responsibility matters. Among the most powerful groups who can drive positive change are students. As the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators, students have a unique opportunity to set the tone for environmental stewardship.
By taking responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean, they not only contribute to a healthier planet but also inspire others to join the cause. This blog explores the vital role students play in environmental cleanliness, offering insights into how simple actions on campus and in local communities can create lasting impacts on the world.
Today, I will be sharing my group's experience during our CWTS Saturday Clean-Up on February 15, 2025. In our course, we have a subject called NSTP, which offers two program options: "ROTC" and "CWTS." As a nature lover and, let's say, an environmentalist, I chose CWTS (Civic Welfare Training Service).
For our final task in this subject, we were required to complete a 10-week Saturday Clean-Up in our chosen area. As the leader, my responsibility was to prepare and submit our proposal. After submitting it, I waited for approval before visiting the Barangay Captain’s house to seek permission to carry out the task in their area.
As a leader, it was important for me to guide the team, set a positive example, and create an atmosphere that was fun, engaging, and anything but boring. I made sure to keep the energy up by sharing jokes and encouraging everyone throughout the entire process, from start to finish. This helped keep the team motivated and made the clean-up experience enjoyable for everyone involved
I explained to the team that our main task was to pick up the plastic waste along the roadside, which had become an eyesore for many people, especially for tourists who might accidentally wander into the area.
As we worked together during the clean-up, I witnessed firsthand how a small group of individuals can make a significant difference. What started as a simple task of picking up plastic waste along the roadside became a meaningful reminder of how crucial it is to take care of our surroundings. The sense of accomplishment we felt after seeing the area cleaner was overwhelming. It wasn’t just about the physical act of cleaning; it was about the impact we had on the community and the environment. Each piece of trash we collected was a small victory for the planet, and every smile we shared reinforced the importance of working together for a common cause.
In conclusion, students can lead by example, showing that small actions can have a big impact. Whether it’s reducing plastic usage, planting trees, or simply picking up litter, these everyday practices can help make the world a cleaner place. The key is for students to understand that they have the power to drive change, no matter how small their contributions may seem.
That’s all for today’s story. I really hope that the example we set will have a greater impact on the community, encouraging everyone to take good care of it and be responsible citizens.
