Good day, everyone! Though it's raining cats and dogs in my area due to the southwest monsoon, I thank God that Typhoon Carina went out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As I was reading and editing an article for the corporate magazine on someone's awkward childhood experiences for our next issue, a comical and awkward memory from my childhood came to mind. I decided to share it with you, despite how embarrassing it was. Here it goes...
During flag ceremonies and retreats while I was in 4th grade, I was always a flag bearer. The flag is picked up from the principal's office at the school. Two male escorts accompany me as flag bearers. I don't understand why our school principal and adviser continually placed one of my escorts with the nephew of our town mayor, who is at a young age, is flirting with me. I was disgusted because, apart from being arrogant, I disliked him! Unfortunately, I sneezed one day when we went to the principal's office to pick up the flag. My partial frontal denture sprang up to the point of nearly flying through the air, and it landed on his hand! Oh, my goodness! When he handed me my denture, I was mortified and felt like ice that melted.
My blood surged to my cheek, turning it scarlet. My high-hat status had disappeared. Not only was that the first time it occurred to me, but when my friends and I played Sha-Tung, he watched (he always followed me even if I frowned at him!). When I smashed the "batiw-tiw," the small stick, the long stick collided with my cheek, and... VOILA! My half-frontal denture soared beside Sha-Tung's short stick before flying away... Again, it dropped into his hands! Whaaa😭...
I believe he brought ill luck into my life, and I shiver every time he is around! My denture brings havoc to my day! By the way, I got a partial frontal denture at the age of ten due to PYORHEA. I'm not sure whether I should pee or weep due to my humiliation! My denture caused me a lot of trouble because it is not yet trendy to have extended gums, and only the four front teeth and gold attached make them easy to remove. It would have been nicer if it had only been the two of us, but there were many other students present. They cannot make fun of me since my mother is a teacher, which was a huge advantage in my life at that time.
