Being an entrepreneur is one of the most challenging yet rewarding forms of employment. Sometimes, you step in fully prepared. Other times, you learn on the job through trial, error, and persistence.

It’s been two years since I officially opened my walk-in space and became visible as an entrepreneur, and I must say, I have learned more practically than all the theory I was taught in school. The journey has shaped not only my skills but also my mindset.

The pressure
When I started ,I found myself worrying about how people would perceive me,how my shop should look, how I dressed, how “put together” everything seemed on the outside. I was more focused on appearance than efficiency of my service. And honestly? That mindset brought pressure to me not progress.

Social media and society can make you feel like your space or brand must look a certain way before it’s seen as valuable. But the truth is: it’s value that attracts, not just beauty.

Lesson from my next door shop
Right across from my store was another beautician. Her place was stunning like something straight out of Pinterest beautiful shelf, hanging mirrors, flowers, lightning etc. heeeeey it was beautiful.
I’ll admit, I felt jealous and even pressured to “compete” with that level of visual appeal.

But after some time, I noticed something important: despite how beautiful her space looked, customers weren’t frequenting her place like I thought they would. It wasn’t about her decor; it was about her delivery.

Just then I learnt that people don’t just walk into a beautiful salon they walk in for results. For experiences. For satisfaction. And for value.

My mind shift
That moment taught me a powerful lesson. I started to focus less on how I looked and more on the satisfaction of my clients.
Yes, my space is moderately welcoming and neat, but my

Yes, I made my space moderately welcoming and neat, but my priority shifted to service—to giving clients the best experience and results. My goal became building a strong portfolio, not just an aesthetic.

Over time, most of my clients came through referrals. Why? Because they were satisfied with my work. Happy clients became my marketers. The results I gave them became my portfolio.

My point is....
I am not saying your work in space shouldn't look good, beautiful, clean and well designed. But I am sat that Let your service speak before your space. Let your value shout louder than your visuals.

Build a brand that delivers let the satisfaction of Your client be your priority. When your portfolio is strong, people will find you regardless of how your wallpaper looks. And this is applicable to anyone offering services under any niche.

As a growing beautician and entrepreneur, I’ve learned to trust the process. Focus on my skill. Grow my client base with care. And when the time comes to elevate my space, it would complement the value you I already bring not cover for the one I haven’t yet built.

So cheers to more growth, lessons, and real success inside and out.
