Today we return to digital drawing, because it’s something I don’t want to leave behind. We’ll be drawing something cute and kawaii—one of those animal popsicles we often see on Pinterest and that became so popular a while ago. But we’ll be doing it in our own style, so let’s get to work and start with the sketch.
Regresamos hoy al dibujo digital, porque es algo que tampoco quiero dejar de lado y estaremos dibujando algo bonito y kawaii, estaremos dibujando una de esas paletas de animales que tanto vemos en Pinterest y tan famosas se hicieron hace un tiempo, pero la estaremos haciendo a nuestro estilo así que manos a la obra y comenzamos por el boceto.
The first step is choosing the animal—I went with a little bear. Next comes the flavor, which in this case will be strawberry, with a chocolate coating that forms the bear and will be slightly melting.
Lo primero será escoger el animal, me decanté por un osito y lo siguiente serán los sabores, que en este caso será fresa con la cubierta de chocolate que será el osito y se estará derritiendo un poco.
Now all that’s left is to separate the coating from the inside of the popsicle. I’ll do this by melting a drop of chocolate, and adding some dynamic brushes wouldn’t be a bad idea to give my character more personality.
Ahora solo queda separar la cobertura y el interior del helado, como lo haré derritiéndose una gota de chocolate, y unas curvas dinámicas no estarían nada mal para darle más personalidad a mi personaje.
We adjust the proportions a little and place it in the right spot on our sheet, and that’s it… the sketch is completely ready to begin working on the final lines of our drawing.
Ajustamos un poco las proporciones y lo situamos en el lugar correcto de nuestra hoja y ya... boceto totalmente listo para comenzar a hacer las líneas finales de nuestro dibujo.
Since I want a very childlike and cartoonish aesthetic, I’ll go with thick lines for my drawing, especially discontinuous ones that create softness and avoid any kind of angles. I’ll also vary the thickness for the facial details and for the texture of the wood.
Como quiero una estética bastante infantil y cartoon me decantaré por líneas gruesas para mi dibujo y sobre todo discontinuas que generen suavidad evitando todo tipo de ángulos, además variaré el grosor para los detalles del rostro y para la textura de la madera.
Now it’s time to add color. I won’t focus on textures or volumes, just flat colors for each part of the drawing. I chose a palette of oranges that are almost brown, and pinks—chocolate and strawberry. I’ll take care of the background much later; for now, I’ll simply focus on the character.
Ahora listo, es tiempo de dar color, no me centraré ni en texturas ni en volúmenes, solo colores planos a cada parte del dibujo. Me decanté por una paleta en todos naranjas casi café y rosas, chocolate y fresa. Del fondo me encargaré mucho más tarde, ahora simplemente estaré centrado en el personaje.
This is how it was turning out after adding different highlights, lights, and shadows. I especially like the strawberry, which looks extremely beautiful with all those shines and nuances. I just need to add a few touches to the wood to complete the character.
Así iba quedando después de agregar distintos brillos, luces y sombras. Me gusta sobre todo la fresa que se ve extremadamente bonita con todos esos brillos y matices. Solo queda dar unos toques a la madera para completar el personaje.
And done! Character ready!
Y Listo! ¡Personaje Listo!
For the background I simply let myself go with a burst of sparkle, doodles, colors, and textures.
Para el fondo simplemente me dejé llevar con una algarabía de brillo, doodles, colores y texturas.
