It's been a rainy day, so yard work has been delayed a bit. But, the rain has brought surprises that I will tell you about today.
The trellis in the photo helps keep cats away. In this way this space does not attract their attention. I will remove it soon to cover the ground with sackcloth or something similar. With this I will also avoid weeds.
First, I discovered that cucumber plants have emerged. Although I made a very stupid mistake. I thought they wouldn't come out, so I removed the soil to get some for some pots. Don't judge me, I do it alone hahaha
When I saw them, it crossed my mind that there would have been more and not just two. The positive part is that I now know that I must wait very patiently. So I'll make some germinators. I just have to think wisely where to place them. Lately my dog has been making messes at night, the plants have been saved from this thanks to the rustic trellis we have placed.
It is not the only disaster, my sister has accidentally knocked over the aerial pots on the pots. We were setting up the house for little Pancho, a cat we adopted months ago. He is a cat with disabilities in his hind legs. We take great care of him, and even more so now that the dog is home. Unlike other cats, he cannot defend himself with the same ease.
Pancho and the new turtle.
He is still small, his growth is very slow, more than the other cats, and he moves slowly at times.
So at night when we can't make sure everything is okay, we keep him in the garden, which is a safe place where the dog can't access.
On one of those occasions, the pots broke one of the baby agaves a little. My heart hurt a little, my agaves. Fortunately only one was damaged.
I don't like seeing him like that, he was horrendous with his broken stalks. So take the scissors to prune it, cutting off the broken stalks. It has grown quite quickly, a month ago it was pruned, and the rain has caused it to grow a lot so I removed several stalks. It will surely grow soon.
You may wonder why I leave few agave leaves. The motto is very simple. This way I can access the soil in the pot, see how much water it needs and water easily. If we leave the agave with stalks everywhere, little by little they will cover the entire surface, making irrigation work difficult.
I placed the leaves in the garden, on the ground. Nature has no waste, everything has a function and life does not die, it returns to generate more life.
There is still work to do, weeding the plants from the pots, organizing the garden under construction, directing the pumpkin plant, and other things. I will do everything little by little, tomorrow I will cover one of these activities, and so on until I complete it. However, to have a garden and an orchard there is always work to do, you never get bored with it.
I would think this would be the only thing new today. I was wrong again, the rain has also brought a new member to the family. Turtle number 8.
This little baby was born, who will remain in the garden until she grows a little to be able to go to the yard.
I don't know if there will be more, each year we only get one. This is this year's, I'm thinking that their names should be the year they are born.
I like turtles, they are very interesting animals, and they also help in the yard. There are no weeds thanks to the turtles, which is less work to maintain a space like this.
All animals have a completely natural function in the environment. Cats help control pests, dogs naturally protect the home, turtles eliminate weeds, bees pollinate plants which gives us fruits and crops, butterflies also collaborate in this. And so are the countless animals that we can find in a patio or garden.
Today I give thanks for everything I have received, the surprises, the animals, the plants, the rain that has made the plants sprout and grow faster. I appreciate life.
