The potatoes did very well at an early stage, seems the water damaged just the potato leave and not the potatoes growing beneath the soil

        No, actually the water damaged potatoes as well otherwise they would have grown bigger. The plants died even before flowering if they hadn't died this earlier I probably would have many more potatoes. but whatever happened, I am happy with it! :)
