I'm continuing to really love playing the game realm, which is a world strategy/builder type play-2-earn game on the wax blockchain.
Season 10 finished this week on tuesday. It was 85 days long, so it was a fair old journey, but I'm still enjoying it. I finished 78th which is good, but a bit of a blow because I was really hoping for a top 75 finish as that would have given me better rewards. In the last 5 days before season end the competition ramped up big time, and then I also had really bad luck in that I was just not completing as many missions as normal. I was undertaking them, but mission success is based on a percentage chance, and my luck just wasnt in.
I was 300k reputation adrift from 75th place. To be fair, it would have been pretty impossible for me to magic up an extra 300K reputation in one week. 300k reputation equates to around 2-3 days playing time for me. Over the 85 days of the season, that equates to an extra 3529 reputation per day. It does not sound like much. Oh well, I tried, and I got beat by better players - I can cope with that.
Rewards
So I did ok on the reward front. I got the following for finishing 78th in silver league:
- A 2-star explorer,
- A rare caffeine equipment card (which is was very happy about - this was the one I was hoping for),
- 9562 RLM (my share of the prize pool).
If I'd gotten to 75 place, it would have been a 3 star explorer, not a 2 star, which would have made quite a difference for me next season - but hey ho.
However, the table above shows my total season 10 rewards, which I am very happy about:
- 4 x leaders (2 x 1 star, 1 x 2 star and 1 x 3 star)
- 4 x equipment (2 x common and 2 x rare)
- 2 x helper cards
- 31562 RLM
I was pretty lucky with ships this season which got me extra treasure tokens and the helper engineer card. I also managed to squirrel away 22000 RLM into staking, which I made from playing the game (mission rewards, ship rewards and leader salary).
In value terms, at todays exchange rates (22nd Feb) that equates to 70282 RLM, or 597 WAX or 110 HIVE. Its by far the most I've earned in a season, so I'm very happy with that, and whats more, I didnt invest any capital into the game for this season (I stopped doing that in season 9).
You could say, so what, 110 HIVE aint that much - you can get that from one good post. Thats true, but I enjoy playing the game, and to get paid for it is a bonus.
Plus now that I have more leaders, helpers, equipment and more RLM staked (which earns 36.5% APR paid daily), it means I'm likely to earn more next season (as long as I keep actively playing).
Theres now a gap period before season 11 starts - only 4 more days to go. My lessons learned from this season are:
- Maybe build the research centre a little earlier. I built it in Asia, the second continent, which is fine, but I probably should have built it as my 2 or third building there as opposed to my second last, so that I could start getting research bonuses a little earlier,
- To focus more on missions like I did this season. This season I spent more time at the start focusing on missions, than I did on building stuff. This worked and got me to the higher continents quicker, which is crucial because you can run better missions there and earn more reputation. As such, I will follow that approach again,
- I only really started using the new loadout function towards the end of this season which I think was a mistake. Now that I have better leaders and equipment, I need to work out some more loadouts that I can use quickly depending on what I'm looking to do (research, building, missions, events, weekly challenge, etc) - in order to get the best boosts form my leaders,
- To continue to really consider which leader to use at which point, and to make sure they are equipped with the correct equipment. Again this worked well for me this season, so I need to make sure I continue to do this properly,
- To make sure I do concentrate on earning RLM, especially in the second half of the season. What I've done for the last two seasons is to only spend RLM on research and upgrades in the first half of the season, and then stop in the second half, and instead put any RLM earned into staking, so that I'm saving it and earning more from it via staking at 36.5% , as opposed to just spending it in the game. As per the table above, this netted me an extra 22000 RLM into staking this season which I was pretty happy about (~34 HIVE worth, so around a third of my total earnings),
- To use my helper cards more. I didnt plan to use them as much this season and hence didnt research them (to improve their stats) early on in the season which I think was a mistake. I then started using them more at the end of the season and realised that it was a mistake at that point. So I need to plan for that earlier in the next season and it should help me to earn more reputation via completing missions quicker,
- To try more of the daily missions. I tend to stay away form the daily missions because the requirements to complete them is hard and they cost RLM to complete. But now that I have 2x3 star generals which are both equipped with rare caffeine, it makes the mission requirements easier (by 20%), so I should do them for as long as I can at the start of the season before they become too expensive, as the goodies from them can be nice. And to push on this more, I need to figure out a good leader loadout that gives me the best chance of completing those (ie, maybe adding in a celebrity too),
- To make sure I collect my ships at two set times each day (6.30 when I get up, and 6.30 in the evening). I started doing that towards the end of this season, and that makes sure I'm collecting them most efficiently (because they take 12 hours to fill up) and hence am more than likely to get better rewards from them.
So I'm happy with how this season went on the whole. For next season I have the following things that should help me to do even better:
- I've got better leaders and equipment to start the next season with,
- I've got the lessons learned above to apply,
- I've got a higher RLM salary income due to my staked RLM, and my levelled up leaders,
- I've got a few more bonuses because I hit the next RLM staking level, and again because I have more leaders and equipment in my collection (giving more collection bonuses).
So heres hoping that adds up to having an even better season !
