On this occasion I would like to analyze one of the most important villains in all of Outlast 2, in fact he is the most important villain, at least of those we can see because I consider that in reality, the great villains are the owners of the Murkoff corporation.
¡Hola, hola gemte de internet! ¿Cómo están? en esta ocasión me gustaría analizar a uno de los villanos más importantes de todo Outlast 2, de hecho es el villano más importante, al menos de los que podemos ver porque considero que en realidad, los grandes villanos son los dueños de la coorporación Murkoff.
To give you some context, in case you've never played this terrifying video game, Sullivan is the main leader of a sect known as the "New Ezekiel Testament." Although we hardly ever see him, his presence is definitely felt. How? Well, his voice is constantly heard over the loudspeakers, and we also find documents that tell us a bit more about him. He prefers to leave the dirty work to his followers like Marta, and this isn't a coincidence. No sir, if you analyze real life, you'll realize that religious leaders use the same pattern: they rarely show their faces or confront others directly. People like Charles Manson preferred to send their henchmen to do the work for him.
Para darles un poco de contexto, en caso de que jamás hayan jugado este aatemorizante videojuego, les diré que Sullivan es el principal lider de una secta conocida como "Testamento del Nuevo Ezequiel" y aunque casi no lo vemos, sí que su presencia se hace notar pero ¿cómo? pues constantemente se oye su voz a través de los altavoces, y también encontramos documentos que nos cuentan un poco más de él, pués él prefiere dejarle el trabajo sucio a sus seguidores como Marta, y esto no es una casualidad, no señor, si ustedes analizan la vida real se darán cuenta que los líderes religiosos usan el mismo patrón, rara vez dan la cara o se enfrentan directamente, personas como Charles Manson preferían enviar a sus secuaces a hacer el trabajo por él.
In fact, Sullivant is inspired by a real-life figure, Jim Jones, who led a cult in Guyana in which he manipulated and coerced thousands of people, even leading them to a mass suicide ritual. Sullivant's main characteristic is precisely his great ability to manipulate and make others believe not only that he possesses the truth, but also that his bad deeds are justified, as long as they benefit the cause (the cult). For example, he was the one who turned Marta into a monster; he suppressed her outbursts of remorse and guilt, making her believe that she wasn't committing murders, but divine justice. That's why when she recited the phrase "God loves you," she did so genuinely, even if it didn't seem that way.
De hecho Sullivant está inspirado en un personaje de la vida real, Jim Jones, quién tenía una secta en la Guyana en la cuálmanipuló y coaccionó a miles de personas llevándolas incluso a un ritual de suicidio colectivo y masivo, y es que la principal característica de Sullivan es precisamente su gran habilidad para manipular y para hacerle creer a los demás, no solo que él es el dueño de la verdad, sino que tus malos actos están justificados, siempe y cuando beneficien a la causa (la secta) por ejemplo fue él quién convirtió a Marta en un monstruo, fue él quién suprimió sus arrebatos de arrepentimiento y culpa, le hizo creer que no cometía asesinatos, sino ajustciamientos divinos, por eso cuando ella recitaba la frase "Dios te ama" lo hacía de manera genuina, aunque no pareciera.
However, if we are entirely fair, we would have to acknowledge that Sullivant is not entirely evil; at least, it's not as if he deliberately decided to do everything he did. He is Reagent 1616 of Project Sinyala by the Murkoff Corporation, meaning he is just another victim of the system. He did hear voices that he attributed to God, but that's because he was cruelly conditioned to do so, as Murkoff made him listen to radio broadcasts during his treatment.
Sin embargo si somos totalmente justos tendríamos que reconocer que Sullivant no es enteramente malvado, al menos no es como que él deliveradamente haya decidido hacer todo lo que hizo, él es el Reactivo 1616 del Proyecto Sinyala de la Corporación Murkoff, osea una victima más del sistema, él realmente escuchaba voces que él atribuía a Dios, pero es porque fue cruelmente condicionado para ello debido a Murkoff lo hacía escuchar emisiones de radio en su proceso
Sullivant is a critique of those sects that blatantly break social structures and boast of having absolute power but only manage to exert control by coercing their victims, suppressing their wills, often to sustain a system that only benefits the leader and his close associates.
Sullivant es una crítica a esas sectas que rompen estructuras sociales descaradamente y se jactan de tener poder absoluto pero solo se encargan de ejercer control coaccionando a sus vistimas suprimiendo sus voluntades, a menudo para sostener un sistema que solo beneficia al lider y a sus allegados.
