Compost basic tips.

in FreeCompliments2 months ago

I have already talked on more than one occasion about how important it is to nourish our plants and improve the soil in our garden. One of the easiest ways to do this is with our own compost.

Compost is easy to make and it is absolutely free so we don't have to go to the store to buy it. It is what they call today the circular economy. In this case on a small scale in our garden.

But making compost can be complicated and frustrating if things are not done right from the beginning. To avoid this we have to follow some small but important recommendations.
First of all, choose a good composter that will last for years. Not the cheapest one there is. We need it to last outdoors for several years. There is nothing more unpleasant than having half-made compost and the composter breaking.
Secondly, we have to find a good location. If you live in a warm climate like me, you have to put it in the shade so it doesn't dry out. If you live in a humid and cold climate, then the opposite.

To make a good compost you have to have a balance between the materials you put in. It is not a waste bin. 2 thirds dry materials, such as dry leaves or pruning remains, for one third wet materials, such as cut grass or chicken manure.
It is important not to add sick plants to the composter or very coarse materials such as branches, it is better to shred them first, if we want to have a healthy compost.
The compost will be ready in about 6 months but if you have space it is better to leave it for a year to achieve a higher quality.

Thank you very much for supporting my blog and I look forward to your comments.!
