Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.
As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.
Today: Wah Wah Lady! So... what's that mean. Well, a few years ago the Danish National Symphony Orchestra started uploading to YouTube and they amazed us all by not only how good they are, but by their constant selection of popular TV, movie, and video game music to include in their concerts. The first concert that they really attracted attention (at least my attention) over was their Morricone Duel concert, which featured music both from Westerns and gangster films. Not all of it was composed by Morricone, despite the concert name.
Anyway, probably the most popular piece in the concert was a piece that combined the main theme of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and the gold theme (I forget the name) from the climax of the film. The piece featured Tuva Semmingsen, who did the strangest vocals ever, singing "Wah Wah" in a part that I think was originally an instrument. It is incredibly bizarre. I mean she does a great job, but it's just a little strange. It sounds like she is singing wah wah so the YouTube comments section dubbed her the Wah Wah Lady.
Anyway, I won't include this as one of my three picks, but if you haven't see it, go watch.
From this point, the orchestra started featuring her in more and more of their performances and we soon discovered that she had an amazing voice and could sing much more than just wah wah. But the nickname name stuck.
So for today, I thought I'd pick three of the performances that featured her.
Who Wants to Live Forever
A few weeks ago when I posted about how Sinatra hated both of his signature songs Strangers in the Night and My Way, @bozz left a comment telling me that My Way is one of the most popular funeral songs. I replied that I thought I'd rather have this song sung at my funeral. To be honest, I never thought that until I heard Tuva's version of the song. Listing to her and the orchestra behind her, it popped in my head that this would be perfect for that situation. ...not to be depressing or anything. 😃 Anyway, I know it's hard to beat Freddy Mercury's voice, but she comes pretty close!
Moonraker
On a previous Three Tunes Tuesday I posted some of my favorite 007 songs. Well, her is Tuva singing one of the best 007 songs from the Moore era. Is she better than the original singer, Shirley Bassey? Again, it's pretty close!
My Favorite Things
Finally, let's end with this classic, most famously sung by Julie Andrews. Another amazing version of a classic!
So what's your favorite?
