Some parts of the world are already experiencing the summer. I chatted with a friend living in Canada few days ago and got to know that it's been terribly hot there as if there's been more cracks in the ozone layer, lol. Well here, we're yet to enter the summer as the rains are still coming. Infact it was a heavy downpour yesterday evening and my street waterlogged but thankfully this morning, some parts have dried up.
So let's delve into this week’s topic which is about the best places to visit during the summer. Talking about a best place depends on where one likes visiting. One may prefer the beach while another will opt for the amusement park. The most important thing is to visit a place where you can have an awesome experience.
I just have few places that I would share, hoping that you'll like them.
Visiting the Maldives has been an age long dream and I just wish for an opportunity to do so one day. The Maldives is an archipelago of over 1,000 islands located in the Indian Ocean. It's a perfect place to visit in summer as it has stunning beaches, crystal-clear lagoons, and luxurious resorts.
I love the idea of the beach but since I do not even know how to swim, I can at least stay by the shore, play with the sand and run for my life when the waves start coming, hehehe. Or better still I can just relax in the overwater bungalows, or just enjoy luxurious spa treatments, lol.
It would be fun to watch others swim in crystal clear lagoons, engage in a variety of water sports like surfing, jet skiing etc. And then there's diving too, for lovers of it. You know the Maldives is a world-renowned diving destination with abundant marine life, including manta ray.
No wonder the name "Mal - dives".😅
Now coming to my country, Nigeria, there are many beautiful cities and places to visit. In fact you'll be wowed upon seeing them.
One of the cities is the ancient Badagry city, a home to several stunning beaches, like the Gberefu Beach, the Apa Wharf Beach, and the Atican Beach Resort. Each of these beaches are unique in their own ways but in all offer visitors an opportunity to relax in the sand, swim in the sea, and take in the stunning ocean views.
The Gberefu Beach is known for its calm waters and traditional fishing village vibe. imagine getting fresh water fish and preparing pepper soup or even barbecue, hmmm, yummy.
If you love swimming and snorkeling, then Apa Wharf Beach got you covered.
Then Atican Beach Resort is a real gem in Badagry. This picturesque beachfront resort offers a range of accommodation options from cozy chalets to luxury villas, each with its own private balcony overlooking the stunning Atlantic Ocean. Isn't this wow. Hold on, more are coming. You'll have the opportunity to explore the white sandy beaches, swim in the crystal-clear waters, or participate in water sports like banana boat rides, jet skiing, etc.

Atican Beach is actually an adventure-lover's paradise so why don't you go ahead and do two can tango, hehehe. And while at it, don't forget to try out the local like freshly grilled fish, seafoods, isi ewu (spicy goat head) and international cuisines, including refreshing coconut drink, cocktails and cold beers. So you can relax on the beach with a freshly cut coconut in hand, taking in the stunning sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.
Badagry also has some rich historical sites like
The Heritage Museum, The First Storey Building, the Badagry Slave Route, and The Famous Badagry Market, where you can get a wide variety of goods, from traditional textiles and handicrafts to fresh fruits, vegetables and some nice local dishes too.
I understand that some people may not really fall into the beach gang and may love some bit of adventure, maybe something like visiting wildlife park, rock climbing or even the museum, then Jos city is the destination point. Known as the "Home of Peace and Tourism", Jos is a picturesque city in Plateau State with a cool climate, beautiful rock formations, and stunning waterfalls. Now that's a lot of adventure coming, lol.
I had the opportunity of visiting Jos during the holidays in August, 1996 and I fell in love with the city. It was actually a youth camping program and that was the first time I traveled that far. We were camped at St Murumba College, Zaria Road and it was surrounded by rocks. Aside the seminars, teachings, there were lots of fun games and of course rock climbing. Yours truly did climb the rocks, though I was afraid at first but it was fun.
I enjoyed the * refreshing kunu zaki, made from fermented millet and other ingredients plus fresh kuli kuli (groundnut cake) and other local delicacies. It was indeed a memorable trip.
Talking about wildlife, there's Jos Wildlife Park. This park is home to a variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, and monkeys. The fun here is that you can go on a guided safari or feed some of the animals especially get some bananas for the monkeys, hehehe.
How about going on a picnic. You can go with family members or friends too. Look for a nice cosy place, maybe the amusement park or safe woods. It will offer a good opportunity for family time and bonding too.
The first time I went on a picnic was in February 14th, 2009, and it was at Le Meridian Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State but now changed to *Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort *. I and some friends decided to celebrate the valentine's day the picnic way.
We prepared different delicacies, got assorted drinks, fruits and some game materials like ludo, whot and skipping rope. We also went on a boat ride at the Mbiakong river. I enjoyed every bit of it.
I tell you, Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort* is another cosy place you need to visit in the summer. It's actually a 5-star hotel & resort built on a hilly environment. From there you can have a clear view over the rain forest stretching to the mountains of Cameroon, It holds many adventures and discoveries that you wouldn't want to miss.
Okay, I have to end it here. I leave you to choose the one that will best suit you and remember the idea is to have an awesome experience.
