Hey Splinterlands community!
If you’ve ever doubted the raw power of Trample in chaotic guild brawls, this battle will change your mind.I just rewatched my latest submission and Dar Tottem Gearnut (the tanky Life/Dragon Gnome melee beast with massive health) absolutely stole the show. In a 3 vs 5 format where my lean team faced a full five-monster opponent squad—including the ruthless Gladiator Captain Katie with her Bloodlust—Gearnut turned the tide with devastating chain attacks.
In addition, If the Brawl system has ever handed you a tiny selection while your opponent gets a full competitive squad, this replay is pure motivation. I'm still deep in the grind building my Gladiator packs, so my card pool is limited and my team turned this apparent mismatch into a clean, satisfying victory against a dangerous 5-monster lineup.
Lastly, a connection issue prevented my summoner from fully activating one of its strongest features — and yet we still pulled off the win.
Splinterlands is no walk in the park, but that's what amps up the excitement.A winning strategy weighs stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and beyond. That's why you must factor them all into your deck building. Toss in strong cards to boost your setups, and push hard to rack up as many victories as possible! 🔥

The battle:
Ruleset and Lineups.

The total mana cost was 30 and you are to chose splinters from fire, water earth and life units. And there was no modifier for this battle as well.
My Team –Small, Synergistic and Tougher Than It Looked.
Summoner: Elias Max Pruitt (7 mana)
This legendary Life/Water summoner provided excellent baseline buffs to the whole team: +1 Melee Attack and +1 Shield (Armor). It can also bestow a strong targeted ability on one unit — either Repair + Cleanse (for ongoing healing and debuff removal) or Armored Strike + Piercing (extra armor and armor-ignoring damage).
Unfortunately, the network glitch meant that extra targeted buff never activated on Dar Tottem Gearnut. He only received the standard team buffs. No extra healing, no cleanse, no piercing —just raw stats and Trample. The fact we still dominated makes this win even sweeter!.
My 3-Monster Lineup (30 Mana Total):
- Dar Tottem Gearnut(Position 1 –Tank) — The undisputed MVP. This tanky life/Gnome promo card boasts a massive health pool, boosted armor (+1 from the summoner), and the devastating Trample ability. Every time hi
is melee attack (amped by +1 Melee) killed an enemy, he immediately chained another full melee swing on the next monster in line.In a crowded 5-monster board is under Standard rules, those forward chains were pure destruction. - Abyssal Elemental(Position 2) —Delivered consistent Magic Attack pressure and the clutch Resurgence ability. When it died, it resurrected once per battle at full health and armor (debuffs cleared), giving me a vital second life and keeping the momentum alive.
- Gladiator Helmet Kharafax (Position 3) —Not completely idle! With 0 attack power at his current level, he couldn’t fight back offensively or trigger Bloodlust (since he never landed kills). However, he played a valuable support/tank role: he drew enemy attention, absorbed hits, and bought precious time for the carries to work.Meanwhile, he steadily stacked +1 max health every time any monster died on the board via Scavenger. Thanks to the relentless pressure from Gearnut and the Abyssal Elemental, he had plenty of bodies to scavenge from and helped the team endure longer.
Opponent’s 5-Monster Squad (Cute Kitties guild)
Summoner: Chuul Jujinchi
- Lioceros (Tank) — Melee + Thorns
- Blackmoor Nymph — Magic + Immunity
- Captain Katie — Magic + Snipe + Bloodlust (the main scaling threat)
- Mad Ogre Anarchist — Melee + Opportunity
- Aria Bandit — Ranged + Snipe + Dodge
My opponent brought a well-rounded squad with defensive tools, backline sniping, and snowball potential — a clear numerical advantage under the clean Standard ruleset with 30 total mana.

Round 1
It was a clear mismatch in unit count (3 vs 5), and my opponent's mix of Thorns reflection, Immunity tankiness, dual Snipe threats, and Opportunity flexibility made it tough for my compact team to break through. Elias's buffs gave my melee some extra bite and survivability, but the extra bodies on his side allowed his team to trade efficiently and maintain pressure from multiple angles.
Round 2, Scene 3 to 7,Abyssal Elemental was eliminated, but its resurgence ability brought him back and dealt -1 to the health of all units.

Round 3, my opponent lost his monster, and Dar performed is first trample move.

First trample by Dar activated, every time is melee attack killed an enemy, he immediately chained another full melee swing on the next monster in line as displayed.

Round 3,scene 12,death of Abyssal Elemental.

Round 4,scene 3,second trample performance displayed.

Round 6,scene 2 to 6,final trample carried out.

Game over

Watch this exciting brawl battle here and appreciate the trample ability.

My verdict
I had planned to give Dar 'tottem' Gearnut either Repair + Cleanse (for ongoing healing and debuff removal) or Armored Strike + Piercing (extra armor and the ability to ignore enemy armor).
Unfortunately, due to a network issue, that targeted ability never triggered. Gearnut only received the baseline team buffs (+1 Melee and +1 Armor). No extra healing, no cleanse, no piercing — just the standard package. Imagine how much tankier and more unstoppable he would have been with Repair or Piercing on top of his already massive health pool!
Why I’m Really Happy Despite the Network Issue
This win proves that even when things don’t go perfectly, limited cards from the Brawl system + a connection problem blocking the summoner’s best targeted buff — smart ability usage and core synergy can still deliver.
Dar ‘Tottem’ Gearnut showed exactly why he’s becoming a favorite: massive health + Trample is a nightmare for crowded boards. The Abyssal Elemental’s Resurgence provided the insurance I needed. And even passive Helmet Kharafax quietly did his job by stacking health via Scavenger.
Imagine if the network had cooperated and Gearnut got Repair (constant healing) or Piercing (ignoring enemy armor) on top of everything else, that would have been even more ridiculous!
The combination of Trample + Resurgence + Bloodlust/Scavenger created a perfect strategy. and synergy.
