Good day, Splinterlands community! Today, I will be sharing another interesting battle experience highlight, focusing on the strategic use of Sergeant Grauzrial in a match featuring the Noxious Fumes and Aimless rule sets. This particular battle I’ve use to played using a scholar account and takes place in the Modern Format, showcasing how Grauzrial can be effectively utilized in these specific conditions. With the arrival of the Conclave Arcana set, our bltzr scholar account will sadly no longer be active, as most of the delegated cards were from the Chaos Legion set, which is now moving to the Wild Format. While it’s unfortunate to we will no longer playing from our scholar experience, some of us and me we’re still committed to playing and progressing with our personal accounts, eager to adapt to the new meta and continue earning in this ever-evolving game.

Sergeant Grauzrial is a Legendary reward card from the Rebellion set that offers exceptional value for its low mana cost of just 6. This powerful card combines the Opportunity, Immunity, and Blast abilities, making it highly versatile and impactful in various battle scenarios. With 4 speed, 3 ranged damage, and 6 health, Sergeant Grauzrial strikes quickly and hard, especially in rule sets where speed is crucial or where secondary splash damage from Blast can turn the tide. Its Immunity ensures it remains unaffected by poison or other negative status effects, allowing it to stay active longer on the battlefield. The Opportunity ability allows it to target the weakest enemy units, often eliminating support monsters early, which can significantly disrupt the opponent's strategy. All these traits make it a formidable and reliable choice in both offensive and utility roles.

Although I only have Sergeant Grauzrial at level 2 and not yet at its maximum potential, it already unlocks three essential abilities. Opportunity, Immunity, and Blast, making it highly effective in certain battle conditions. One of the best scenarios to deploy this card is during the Noxious Fumes rule set, where its Immunity ability offers a clear survival advantage by making it resistant to the ongoing poison damage that affects most other monsters. Combined with its ability to target the weakest enemy through Opportunity and deal splash damage via Blast, even at level 2, it becomes a deadly force that can shift the momentum of the battle. In the following match, I’ll show you how I used Sergeant Grauzrial strategically to dominate in a Noxious Fumes setup.

In this battle, I selected Quix the Devious as my summoner to reduce the opponent's ranged attack and speed, anticipating that they might rely on either ranged or magic damage. Using the Dragon-Water combination, I positioned Baakjira as the main tank for its durability, while Mar Toren Trader served a dual role as both a debuffing support and secondary tank with healing capabilities. Angelic Mandarin was included for additional support through its Triage ability, while Venari Marksrat played a key part in the Martyr strategy by boosting both Angelic Mandarin and Sergeant Grauzrial upon defeat. Sergeant Grauzrial acted as the core damage dealer with his powerful ranged attacks, and I placed Vruz to contribute extra melee damage and further enable the Martyr synergy. The focus of this lineup was on healing support and maximizing the benefits of Martyr, particularly for Sergeant Grauzrial, whose Immunity allows him to outlast poison effects in Noxious Fumes and whose Blast ability enhances his offensive impact.

The opponent also chose the Dragon element, using Lily Shieldpaw as their summoner, and deployed a solid lineup consisting of Grimbardun Smith, Mar Toren Trader, Merdaali Guardian, Angelic Mandarin, Venari Marksrat, and Doctor Blight. Their team featured strong synergy, particularly with Grimbardun Smith’s immunity to poison and Doctor Blight’s effectiveness in disrupting healing strategies. However, the match also included the Scattershot rule set, which introduced random targeting and minimized the full advantage of Lily Shieldpaw’s Camouflage ability. Despite the opponent’s powerful lineup, especially the durability and support combination, I felt confident in my strategy due to better positioning and synergy—particularly in capitalizing on Martyr buffs and immunity with Sergeant Grauzrial. So, given the battle conditions and strategy setups, who do you think came out on top?

As the battle progressed, Sergeant Grauzrial proved effective on this Noxious Fumes rule set, and most of the random attacks from the opposing team were lucky. This allowed him to deal damage with his powerful consistently ranged attacks throughout the match. The Martyr strategy I implemented also worked as intended, with support units boosting Sergeant Grauzrial’s stats early on. Once empowered, he became an even greater threat, dishing out devastating damage while remaining unaffected by poison thanks to his Immunity ability.

By the time the match reached Round 9, only a few of my units remained standing. Baakjira, Mar Toren Trader, Angelic Mandarin, and Sergeant Grauzrial, all of whom had strong survivability chances that allowed them to withstand the Noxious Fumes rule set. This outcome reinforces how important it is to build a team around Immunity and healing when facing battles under this condition. Combining Martyr boosts with damage-resilient cards can turn the tide and give you the upper hand in longer-round battles.
