Support Article: Land deeds and claiming

in Splinterlands17 days ago

Land has been a fascinating concept in splinterlands. There have been a lot written about lands, and this time I want to take a unique route. I want to explore the concept of land deeds and land claiming in splinterlands.

Land deeds signify player's ownership of land plots. Lands deeds are basically NFTs that are maintained by the Splinterlands on the Blockchain it runs on, which is the hive blockchain.

To get land deeds, you can buy them from other players or use land claim tokens to claim them. The interesting thing about land deeds is that they can be bought, sold, transferred, and even traded between players. They can also be bridges to other platforms and be traded there.

Like all NFTs, each land deed NFT is differentiated with a unique ID, but it's not just that. They are also differentiated by the various features of the land it represents. One of such is the location of the land within Praetoria. Of course, Praetoria is where the lands being owned ate located. When it comes to location, the following attributes are involved: Territory, Region, Tract and Plots

Furthermore, Land deeds could be surveyed or unsurveyed. Now, when it is in an unsurveyed state, the only thing known about the plot of land is information about the location.

It's possible for players to send parties to where their land plots are located in order to survey them, thereby unlocking well detailed information about such land. The land deed NFT will be updated to a "Surveyed" state as soon as a land plot is surveyed. Then all of the extra information about the land plot it represents will be displayed.

Land Claiming

In order to claim land, players can get claim tokens. There are 3 kinds: Plot, Tract and Region tokens.

Plot tokens are for claiming a single plot of land, Tract tokens are for claiming 100 plots of land which are located within the same tract, and Region tokens are for claiming 1,000 land plots which are located together in any one of the 150 regions in Praetoria owned by players.

In order to claim land, a player is required to convert their existing region, tract or plot tokens into Unsurveyed Deeds. When a region is claimed, 1000 consecutive plots all contained in a single region are yielded; when a tract is claimed, 100 consecutive plots all contained in a single tract are yielded; when a plot is claimed, a single plot is yielded.

After redeeming a region token, the algorithm searches for the first completely empty region, one where no tracts or plots have been laid claim to, and then it will mark it as claimed, thereby generating 1,000 deeds in the process.

After redeeming a tract token, the algorithm, in a similar fashion, searches for the first completely empty tract, marking the 100 plots claimed and goings ahead to generating deeds for them. Lastly, after redeeming a plot token, the algorithm searches for and assigns a deed for the first available plot found.
