The People's Guild has recently released their 100th episode. And to make things extra special, they decided to invite a bunch of prominent Splinterlands personalities such as Tales from the Cryptmancer, RoguePatton, BebeOmega, Viru5, SteveR82, and Nate Aguila. It's a fun and informative conversation and probably one of my favorite episodes to date. You can check it out here.
Andf from the entire episode, the one key takeaway that stood out to me was the question of whether or not the Rebellion card collection would lose its value after the conflict airdrops ends. Bjangles opened this can of worms at around 28:03 of the recording.
Lorkus is about to be released in just three days. After that, there are five more unlocks remaining before it comes to an end at the last quarter of the year. My initial thought is that it will sharply drop in value as the main reason why many players were holding on to their assets was the fact that they can get a chance to receive valuable cards from the conflicts airdrop.
Nate then disclosed an interesting revelation on what conflicts was supposed to be. The team was initially planning conflicts to be a player vs environment mode where their various characters' backstories would be unravelled as players progress through the missions. Nate also describe a battle system where each monster in the wagon would have different interactions depending on their role like tanks and healers. This reminded me of what Splinterforge battles currently look like. But unfortunately, due to resources and time constraints, they decided to trim it down to a much simpler version that is implemented right now.
RoguePatton then made a strong argument that Rebellion cards would retain value because there would be no other cards to play with once Chaos Legion finally leaves modern. And sure, the current Chaos Legion set is falling in value but that's just because it was way overprinted. But with the current circulating supply for Rebellion and the fact that many players still have very few Rebellion cards, demand might start to pick up once the format rotation happens. Also, the next set after Rebellion would have higher card values because they will be the next ones to utilize the conflicts system. The only cost-effective way to join modern at that point in time would be by purchasing Rebellion cards. This is an interesting idea for sure. Overall, it was an interesting People's Guild episode and one that's worth a listen.
