Welcome to my second entry for the new Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge. And the topic for this week is about the players' favorite strategies. For me, it's no secret that I really like playing the Life splinter above all other types. And what I'm going to feature is a very basic strong offense and defense strategy, or what I call sword and shield.
THE SHIELD
First, let's talk about my tanks. I'd like to utilize monsters that have the new flank ability which gives reach to the unit in the second position.
Ulundin Overseer is one of the primary candidates for the tank/ shield slot. He practically gives away any manner of offense for a solid health and armor.
Another good monster is the Silverblade Fighter. He is especially useful when the opponent is expected to deploy magic wielding monsters. He also has protect which can help block attackers with sneak.
THE SWORD
The heart of this strategy lies with my favorite Chaos Legion card, Jared Scar. He's already an almost perfect killing machine with a very high attack power, true strike, and piercing. A kill will also trigger bloodlust, which will further imbue his capabilities.
Of course, all these strengths come with a huge drawback. Jared Scar is very weak defensively and is very slow. But thanks to the flank ability, he can be used more often in matches.
Unfortunately, Jared is from the Chaos Legion set so he will soon rotate out of modern. But another great alternative to him is Venka the Vile. Although Venka does not have bloodlust, the trample ability might trigger multiple kills in one turn.
SUPPORT
Since this strategy is primarily melee-focused, having units with inspire is necessary. Luckily, the Rebellion set has released some interesting cards that have this ability.
I've previously made a post about Janni Rebel in the community engagement challenge. You can check it out here. Because of her huge health and divine shield, she can be a backline defender as well as enhance the melee attacks.
Commander Goff is also an interesting support unit with inspire. He can also be a good backline tank and the resurrect ability can provide a fail-safe mechanism for the frontliners should they meet an early demise.
Healing is also very important and Meriput Magician does it well. She also gains strengthen in the final level which is always a good ability to have. She is especially useful for Ulundin Overseer who has huge health.
SUMMONERS
I'd like to say Avina is the go-to summoner for this strategy. The self-heal is necessary for Ulundin Overseer to last longer in the game. Having a strong tank is key to this plan. But if Silverblade Fighter is the chosen tank, it would be better to use the upcoming summoner, Elias Max Pruitt. Instead of healing, Silverblade would find a better use for repair. And the overall buff in melee attack is also a game-changer, in my opinion. But I've yet to try it out as Elias is still an upcoming summoner.
