Hello Splinterlands Summoners! We finished our first season fully using the new Modern set. Having lower level cards, I couldn't compete that well and just finished the season in Gold II League.
Legendary Cards
I earned enough SPS to buy three legendary cards for 105,000 Glints and 2,000 Merits for 2,000 Glints.
I'm happy to get a new card, the Surly Drunk and two cards I already have, Chaos Battle Mage and Warborn Chieftain. I was able to upgrade my Chaos Battle Mage to level two where he gained a new ability, Rebirth.
I'm only missing the one mana legendary reward card in my collection. I'll keep buying legendary chests until I complete my deck.
Guild Brawl
After a horrendous last place in the previous brawl, our guild came back strong. This time, we were in the second place, our best performance in brawls.
I had a good performance, winning seven battles and losing only one. Each of us earned 5,500 Merits and 78 SPS.
Guild Store
I bought four Gladius packs from the Guild Store. Each pack contain five cards with one guaranteed rare or higher. While I did not get any legendary cards, I consider this a lucky pull having three epic cards and seven rares.
As a result, I was able to upgrade my Quora to level three where she gained the Immunity ability.
Featured Battles
I had a lot of fun in these battles as I try the new synergies and combos in brawls.
Battle 1 - Water Splinter
In this battle, I used two new cards I bought: Thraghun and Archer Koi. Thragrun is a good position two card. He has two attacks, melee and ranged. He has the Reach ability allowing him to attack with melee and ranged from the second position. He is from the Death splinter but I can use him in Water since he is of the same orc bloodline as my archon, Gorgug the Endless.
Archer Koi is a good support card having the Repair ability and one ranged attack. Both Thraghun and Archer Koi are level one but already finding their use in my battles.
Battle 2 - Earth Splinter
Here I used Quora in the tank position while the opponent wanted to take advantage of the Melee Mayhem ruleset and placed his Quora in the rear where she can still attack with melee. I used two new goldfoil Conclave Arcana cards I recently bought from the market and one Rebellion card that gained more utility because she is of the same bloodline as the elf archon, Kaylia. Virid Venomancer has the Shield Ward ability which grants the Shield ability to units in front of her. This gave my Quora another layer of defense. Rebellion card Blackmoor Wildelf gained the Execute ability from Kaylia which can be effective making her eliminate low health enemies she previously hit. Mad Kaboomist is a dwarf that deals two magic damage. I have four cards against my opponent's three and I think I have the better unit placement. I won this battle easily.
Battle 3 - Light Splinter
I was lucky to pull one of the best offensive epic cards in Conclave Arcana, Leolin Sifu. At level one she deals three melee damage and has the True Strike ability. Enemy units cannot dodge her attacks and will receive the brunt of her three melee damage. I used her with the Rebellion reward card, Janni Rebel who has the Flank ability as well as buffing the attack of melee units like Leolin. For my gladiator card, I used the reliable damage dealer Captain Katie who has the Snipe ability. To synergize with Captain Katie's ability, I used another unit with Snipe, Bludgeon Hucker. Hucker is from the Conclave Arcana set and is also an Ulund bloodline, same with the archon. She will have the Shield ability granted by Bella reducing damage from melee and ranged attacks by one. The battle gave me the scare since my opponent's Isgalt Vorst was getting kills triggering her Bloodlust. Luckily, my damage dealers also did their job and eliminated the enemy units.
Final Thoughts
It's challenging to build my deck and find the optimal unit combinations again. However, this is what makes Splinterlands a fun and exciting game. I'm pleased to see the cards I bought performing as expected and doing their roles in battles. I will keep buying cards that I need to strengthen my deck and compete in the higher levels. Soon, I hope to reach Diamond League again.
