Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to another edition of Community Engagement Challenge! In #splinterlands, there are two leagues of choice to play with. I usually play in Modern League where newer editions of cards are allowed to play. The Modern League is favored by newer players who don't have the old card editions. In Wild League, all edition of cards are allowed such as Alpha, Beta, Untamed and Dice. Players need to pay for a pass to play in the Wild League unlike in Modern where it's free to play. Also, ghost cards are not allowed in Wild. This season, players can play in the Wild League without the need for pass. We can still play with our old Chaos Legion cards if you want to try them in the Wild League.
Battles in the Wild
Let's check out some of the battles in Wild League. These are older edition cards so there may different strategies and meta involved. The featured battles include my favorite cards when I started playing Splinterlands.
Battle 1 - Earth Splinter, Flesh Golem
When I first started playing Splinterlands, the Earth Golem was one of my favorite tanks. It's the most expensive common card at that time. The cost is justified by its healing ability at level three.
With only five BCX, the Flesh Golem can be upgraded to level three and have a healing ability. It has a lot of health too which is great for a tank. I used to use this with Mylor Crowling as a summoner but in this battle, Lyanna Natura was the summoner.
In second position was another card I frequently used in the Earth splinter, the Earth Elemental. It's a great backline unit with only three mana and sufficient health to guard against Sneak attackers. In this battle, it was placed in the second position as a secondary tank because of its health and healing ability.
In third position was the Failed Summoner. At only two mana, it's a great no-attack tank. It has decent health and Magic Reflect to counter against magic attacks.
The rest of the team were composed of Chaos Legion units so I will not discuss them further.
His opponent chose the Water Splinter with mostly Chaos Legion units. The tank healer strategy while his backline did the damage worked well for the Earth team. His tanks were able to survive long enough to allow his damage dealers to do their job and decimate the enemy team.
Battle 2 - Water Splinter, Alric Stormbringer
Magic was the meta back in the days and one of the favorite rare summoners was Alric Stormbringer. He grants an additional magic attack to all units so he was the favorite summoner in the early days.
Later, Mylor Crowling became one of the favorites and can even counter magic attacks when comboed with the Unicord Mustang and a tank healer.
In second and third positions were the early low mana cards. Who can forget the Furious Chicken? It was the first zero mana card in the game and cost a lot in the market.
There was also the Creeping Ooze at only one mana but debuffs the enemy by decreasing their speed by one.
In fifth position was the legendary Ruler of the Seas with his Blast ability. It's a powerful ability that few cards have in the early days. It's also what made Yodin Zaku the most sought after legendary summoner before.
The enemy team picked Earth this time with only Brownie, a one mana epic card in the first position. The Water team was classic meta with mostly magic units. It was further strengthened by Chaos Legion cards Djinn Oshannus who is a great magic tank. Venari Wavesmith is another sought after Chaos Legion cards because he provides armor which was sorely needed by defenseless magic units. He was one of the costly cards when Chaos Legion first came out with one BCX selling for as much as $5!
The Water team won this one easily. It has the better combo, the more powerful cards and meta. They hit harder and faster than the slow Earth team who got eliminated before they can even score a hit. The battle was finished with no unit lost to the Water team.
Final Thoughts
Watching these battle brought some nostalgia. These were the cards I played with when I first started with Splinterlands. However, we can't dwell in the past. It's now the new era for Splinterlands with a new card set, new meta and abilities. While we don't want to forget what has come before, we must embrace the new cards that bring fresh excitement and interest in our game.
